Specialized in the field of Minimally Invasive Medicine, Novanta Medical develops devices and accessories so that doctors can operate with small cuts. We produce Cameras, Insufflators, Medical Pumps, and tubing that makes diagnosis and treatment easier for everyone. Our insufflators and pump systems dilate cavities in the body and turn previously complicated surgeries into minor procedures. Together with customers, doctors, and technical experts, our teams continuously search for new ways to innovate.\nAs a Lead Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for software development activities, guide engineering teams on complex technical challenges, and help drive the adoption of modern AI-supported development practices.\nYour Responsibilities:\nLeading software development for medical devices and guiding engineers in the implementation of software solutions\nLeading the transformation from classical software development to AI-supported software development within the team\nRequirements analysis and creation/review of software requirements and related documentation\nEnsuring compliance, traceability, and product lifecycle documentation within medical device development\nConducting design and code reviews\nPlanning and coordinating software development activities within the team\nCreation and execution of software tests and resolution of complex software issues\nApplying and further developing software standards and best practices\nCreating and maintaining technical and regulatory documentation in accordance with FDA, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304 requirements\nProviding technical leadership through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing\nSupporting strategic and technical decision-making within the software engineering function\nAdditional Responsibilities:\nDriving the adoption of AI-supported software development practices, tools, and workflows\nSupporting engineers, students, and external development partners on complex technical topics\nAssessing the impact of new technologies, standards, and AI-supported development methods\nMentoring new employees and fostering engineering excellence within the team\nSupporting hiring activities by assessing technical capabilities and leadership potential\nProviding technical input for performance evaluations and employee development\nMonitoring industry trends and representing the organization in relevant technical forums where appropriate\nAdvising management on software engineering and technology-related decisions\nIdeal Experience, Education and Skills:\nDegree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent\nExperience leading software development activities for regulated medical devices and providing technical guidance to engineers\nStrong understanding of AI-supported software development approaches and practices\nVery good knowledge of software architecture, software design, and system development\nExtensive experience in embedded software development with C/C++\nExperience mentoring engineers and reviewing technical solutions\nKnowledge of software development tools and AI-supported engineering approaches\nGood verbal and written English skills (B2 or higher)\nDesirable: knowledge of electrical engineering and communication/transmission protocols\nStrong technical leadership skills and the ability to influence without direct disciplinary authority\nHigh willingness and capability to drive change and innovation\nStructured, quality-conscious, trustworthy, and team-oriented working style\nTravel Requirements:\nWillingness to travel up to 10%\n(*) Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)\nNovanta is proud to be an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action workplace.
