Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Novelis has approximately 13,000 employees in 32 operating facilities on 4 continents.\nResponsibilities & Qualifications\nPosition Overview\nThe Joining and Forming team, located at the Novelis Global Research and Technology Center in Kennesaw, Georgia, has an opportunity to participate in our summer 2027 Co-op program. The team is seeking a Joining Engineer Co-Op that can join the team for approximately 6 months. This role is responsible for joining qualification and development by planning and conducting experiments, evaluating results, and documenting research findings.\nResponsibilities\nConduct literature reviews of current joining methods and practices for proposed aluminum material combinations. \nPlan, develop, and optimize aluminum alloy joining processes. \nConduct laboratory experiments and support operation of joining and materials-characterization equipment. \nPrepare test specimens and perform metallography, mechanical testing, and other relevant characterization. \nAnalyze experimental data and interpret results using sound engineering and statistical methods. \nMaintain organized test records and follow applicable laboratory safety and operating procedures. \nDocument research findings and communicate results through written reports and technical presentations. \nCollaborate with engineers, scientists, technologists, and technicians supporting product qualification and development. \n\nMinimum qualifications\nCurrently enrolled in an accredited four-year university in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field. \nHands-on laboratory or project experience with metal joining, materials processing, or materials characterization. \nExperience with metallography and mechanical testing. \nStrong written, verbal, and presentation skills. \nAbility to work safely and effectively in a laboratory and team environment. \nMust be available for approximately 6 months during summer-fall 2027. \nMust be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. \nEnrolled in an accredited 4-year University.\nMust be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer\nPreferred qualifications\nGraduate student pursuing a master’s degree or PhD in relevant engineering discipline. \nHands-on experience with laser welding, resistance spot welding, self-pierce riveting, or related joining processes. \nExperience with electron microscopy or other advanced materials-characterization techniques. \nExperience with design of experiments, statistical data analysis, or process optimization. \nExperience with engineering modeling, simulation, or data-driven methods. \nKnowledge of aluminum alloys, automotive sheet products, or joining metallurgy. \nAbility to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and communicate progress with limited supervision. \nDemonstrated technical communication through conference presentations, publications, project reports, or comparable work. \n*Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
