This role will report to the Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability & Automation (EMRA) Leader of the hiring Manufacturing Unit. The primary focus of this position is maintenance, service and repair of facilities and equipment. Successful Mechanics are fast learners and self-motivated, independent workers. They will have the ability to work under pressure and the willingness to work in varying conditions. Mechanical Technicians receive training in troubleshooting, technical procedures, and safety.\nResponsibilities:\nEmbrace the Novelis Safety Absolutes to build a zero-injury culture and the Novelis cultural beliefs of Be Authentic, Say Anything, Be Open and Built Trust\nPerform highly diversified duties to install and maintain machines and the plant facility’s equipment\nRead and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service\nDiagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments\nPerform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities\nComply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas\nMinimum Qualifications:\nHS Diploma/GED or 5yrs industrial experience required\n5 years experience in an industrial environment and/or 2 year degree/certification, preferred\nExperienced with LOTO of mechanical systems ensuring elimination of stored energy from gravity and hydraulic systems\nAbility to read and understand hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams\nWritten and oral communication skills, computer skills and familiarity with computer maintenance management systems. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repair histories, and equipment performance metrics.\nFamiliar with safety of cranes, mobile equipment, working in heights, confined space and hot work such as welding.\nRigging experience to replace components\nFamiliarity with preventative and predictive maintenance best practices and procedures\nAbility to align motors and gearboxes using gauges or laser-based systems\nLead bearing, coupling, or other related part replacement using inductive heating or bearing pullers/hydraulic presses\nAble to read gauges both digital and analog and compare to print values to identify issues with fluid systems including oil-based hydraulics, natural gas fired burners, and water-based cooling system and provide basic troubleshoots for minor issues - faulty gauges/valves/settings not to print\nExperience with installing, maintaining, and repairing rotating equipment, lubrication and cooling systems.\nWillingness to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support continuous operations.\nHand and power tools use and safety experience.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nWelding experience of carbon and stainless steels\nFamiliarity with conveyor system for mechanical belt splicing and training\nFamiliarity with SAP work order system\nExperience with pneumatic transport equipment for materials\nPredictive maintenance certifications for thermography, vibration, or ultrasonic methods\nAWS CWI\nExperience with pollution control equipment - i.e. baghouses, precipitators or scrubbers\nBasic Fabrication skills for weldments- experience and proficient use of maintenance equipment and tools including metal working, drill presses, saws, and grinders\nExperience with servo valves.\nAbility to align motors and gearboxes using dial indicators and feeler gauges\nAbility to vulcanize rubber conveyor belts and change metallic mesh belts\nKnowledge of combustion systems\nExperience working with TPM/WCM or continuous improvement\nAble to troubleshoot and tune complex issues with fluid systems\nCurrent NCCCO service truck crane operator certification or ability to become certified within 6 months of starting\nExperience driving mobile equipment such as small cranes, lifts, fork trucks.\nExperience in the aluminum industry preferred, heavy industry alternatively preferred\nExperience with large baghouse systems with fire detection and suppression equipment - FIKE, GRECON especially\nPhysical Requirements:\nNear constant standing with frequent walking and occasional sitting\nOccasional below waist level work, climbing, balancing, carrying, reaching over 15” away from the body, reaching above shoulder, fine motor skills, use of forceful motion, and lifting up to 35 lbs\nOccasional push/pull, and lifting up to 50 lbs\nAbility to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation\nAble and willing to work at heights\n*Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
