Responsibilities & Qualifications

Nous recherchons actuellement un ingénieur ou un chercheur hautement motivé et qualifié dans les domaines de l'ingénierie computationnelle, de la science des matériaux, de la métallurgie ou du génie mécanique pour rejoindre notre équipe sur notre site de Sierre, en Suisse.

Le développement et la production futurs d'alliages d'aluminium recyclés de haute qualité nécessitent des processus rapides et adaptatifs qui relient en temps réel le processus de fabrication et la métallurgie, ainsi qu'une prévision précise des performances.

Vos responsabilités:

Vous ferez partie de l’équipe chargée de poursuivre le développement de cadres de modélisation avancés en R&D pouvant être appliqués à différentes activités à l’échelle mondiale. Cela comprend les responsabilités suivantes :

• Développer un cadre d’ingénierie computationnelle intégrée des matériaux (ICME), combinant des modèles basés sur la physique, des approches fondées sur les données et des outils numériques pour des applications à l’échelle industrielle.
• Traduire les connaissances relatives aux alliages d’aluminium, à la métallurgie, au laminage et aux procédés de finition en modèles prédictifs de microstructure et de performance permettant le développement virtuel de procédés et de produits.
• Collaborer avec les sites de production afin de garantir une adoption réussie et la concrétisation de la valeur ajoutée pour l’entreprise.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled engineer or scientist in the field of Computational Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Mechanical Engineering to join our team at our Sierre location in Switzerland.

The future development and production of high-quality recycled aluminium alloys require fast and adaptive processes that link process and metallurgy in real time, along with precise performance prediction.

Your responsabilities:

You will be part of the team to further develop advanced modelling frameworks in R&D

that can be applied across different operations globally. This includes the following

responsibilities:

• Develop an Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) framework, combining physics-based models, data-driven approaches, and digital tools for industrial-scale applications.
• Translate aluminium alloy, metallurgy, rolling and finishing process knowledge into predictive microstructure and performance models that enable virtual process and product development.
• Collaborate with manufacturing sites, ensuring successful adoption and business value realization.

How to convince us:

• Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Computational Engineering, or a related field; PhD preferred.
• Strong expertise in physical metallurgy, with deep knowledge of texture evolution, recrystallization and precipitation phenomena
• Experience with computational materials engineering approaches and modelling tools such as VPSC, DAMASK, CP-FEM
• Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python, MATLAB or similar).
• Ability to bridge the gap between advanced materials science and industrial application by communicating complex technical concepts clearly across all organizational levels.
• Fluent in English; French is an advantage.
• Demonstrated innovation mindset, curiosity and passion for continuous learning, with a self-driven, highly autonomous and result-oriented working style.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Sierre is located in the Valais Switzerland employing around 550 people. It mainly focuses on production of aluminium sheet for the automotive market covering the entire process from casting to finishing. The plant also hosts a world-leading Research & Innovation Center specialized in the development of new automotive sheet alloys surface treatment and joining technologies. In Feburary 2022 together with research institutions and a local energy provider Novelis founded the Net Zero Lab Valais to develop carbon-neutral solutions for aluminium manufacturing. The lab focuses on identifying and implementing innovative solutions to neutralize the carbon footprint of Novelis’ manufacturing operations and neighboring communities starting in Sierre.
