The team is seeking a co-op student who can join the team for approximately 6 months starting May 2027. This role will establish the capability to connect lubricant properties with aluminum forming performance through hands-on experiments, including applying lubricants to aluminum sheet, forming aluminum parts, and characterizing aluminum surfaces.\nResponsibilities\nMeasure key lubricant properties, including lubricity, wetting behavior, and load-bearing performance.\nApply thin lubricant coatings to aluminum sheet.\nForm aluminum parts using forming equipment.\nEvaluate the surface quality of formed aluminum samples using techniques such as surface topography and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).\nCorrelate lubricant properties with forming performance to guide future lubricant selection.\nSummarize data and generate reports. \nMinimum qualifications\nCurrently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical discipline, with a minimum GPA of 3.5.\nMust be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.\nCommitment to following all laboratory safety requirements and procedures.\nExperience with hypothesis-driven experimental design and data analysis.\nBackground in materials characterization, surface science or metal forming.\nAttention to detail and ability to work independently.\nStrong teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.\nGood verbal and written communication skills.\nPreferred qualifications\nGraduate students are preferred.\nExperience with aluminum alloys, sheet metal forming, surface characterization, lubricant or coating application methods. \nOne or more years of hands-on laboratory research experience.\nFamiliarity with Origin, Python, MATLAB or other data analysis tools for organizing experimental data, calculating trends, and summarizing results.\n*Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
