A key focus of this internship will be a dedicated project aimed at building knowledge around a phage-related challenge impacting customers, providing a valuable opportunity to develop both technical and problem-solving skills.\nThe role & your impact\nIn this role, you will support the daily operations of the Phage Laboratory while learning laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards. Working under close supervision, you will contribute to testing activities, laboratory organization, and project work that supports customer-focused solutions.\nYour key responsibilities in this role\nAssist laboratory staff with routine phage testing activities and sample preparation.\nFollow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.\nSupport laboratory organization, cleanliness, and housekeeping activities.\nAssist with data entry, record keeping, and documentation of laboratory activities.\nHelp manage laboratory inventories, supplies, and materials.\nPrepare laboratory media, reagents, and materials under supervision.\nParticipate in equipment cleaning, monitoring, and maintenance activities.\nAttend team meetings, training sessions, and learning opportunities.\nApply Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and quality standards in daily work.\nSupport special projects and other duties as assigned.\nWhat you’ll need to be successful in this role\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, Biotechnology, Dairy Science, or a related scientific field.\nStrong interest in laboratory work and microbiological testing.\nAbility to follow instructions, procedures, and laboratory safety requirements.\nBasic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.\nGood written and verbal communication skills.\nStrong attention to detail and accuracy.\nAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.\nStrong organizational and time-management skills.\nPositive attitude and willingness to learn.\nAdditional skills & interests we value\nPrevious laboratory coursework or hands-on laboratory experience.\nInterest in bacteriophages, microbiology research, or customer-focused scientific solutions.\nCuriosity and enthusiasm for problem-solving and continuous improvement activities.\nExperience with scientific documentation or data analysis tools.\nWhat we offer you\nHands-on experience in a professional microbiology laboratory environment.\nExposure to phage testing methodologies and laboratory operations.\nOpportunities to develop technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\nCollaboration with experienced laboratory professionals and scientists.\nPractical experience supporting both scientific activities and customer-focused projects.\nA supportive environment focused on learning, development, and growth.\nWays of Working / Working Conditions\nFull-time internship assignment lasting approximately 10 weeks.\nLocated on-site in West Allis, WI.\nAbility to stand, walk, and work at laboratory benches for extended periods. \nAbility to lift and move laboratory materials and supplies up to 25 pounds. \nFrequent use of hands for handling laboratory equipment and samples. \nAbility to wear required PPE and follow laboratory safety requirements. \nLaboratory environment with appropriate safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. \nExposure to laboratory equipment, microbiological samples, and cleaning chemicals under controlled conditions. \nTraining provided for all required laboratory procedures and safety practices. \nCompensation & Benefits\nExpected salary: $23/hr\nRelevant Information\nProgram Dates: May 24th, 2027 to July 30th, 2027\nPosition Type: Temporary position payrolled through a third-party provider\nApplication Deadline: October 30, 2026\nOur purpose guides the way\nIn Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges.
