TheProject Engineering Department is responsible for planning, executing, and supporting capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure. The team partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and external contractors to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and deliver projects that improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and production capability.\nAs aProject Engineering Intern, you will support engineering and capital project activities while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. This role provides opportunities to work alongside project engineers, operations personnel, and cross-functional teams to support facility improvements, equipment installations, process optimization, and project documentation. Interns will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept development and design through project execution and startup.\nKey Responsibilities Include:\nSupport capital and continuous improvement projects across manufacturing operations and site infrastructure.\n\nAssist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and project tracking activities.\n\nParticipate in facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades.\n\nCollaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities.\n\nSupport engineering studies, evaluations, and technical assessments related to manufacturing processes and infrastructure.\n\nAssist with contractor coordination, project documentation, and engineering records.\n\nHelp develop project specifications, drawings, reports, and technical documentation.\n\nAnalyze operational and project data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.\n\nParticipate in project meetings, site walkthroughs, and startup activities.\n\nPresent project findings, recommendations, and outcomes to site leadership and project stakeholders.\n\nWhat You'll Need to Be Successful\nWe are looking for students who are currently pursuing aBachelor of Science degree in:\nMechanical Engineering\n\nChemical Engineering\n\nElectrical Engineering\n\nIndustrial Engineering\n\nConstruction Engineering\n\nOr a related engineering discipline\n\nRequired Qualifications and Competencies\nMinimum 3.0 GPA.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\nInterest in engineering project management, manufacturing operations, and continuous improvement.\n\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.\n\nStrong communication and collaboration skills.\n\nAbility to work independently while contributing to team objectives.\n\nStrong organizational skills and attention to detail.\n\nProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.\n\nSophomore standing or higher at the time of application.\n\nAbility to arrange your own housing and transportation.\n\nWays of Working / Working Conditions\nFull-time internship assignment lasting approximately 10 weeks.\n\nLocated on-site in Franklinton, NC.\n\nExposure to manufacturing operations, engineering projects, and industrial infrastructure systems.\n\nOccasional use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering production areas.\n\nCollaboration with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, Engineering, and external contractors.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nExpected salary: $23/hr\nRelevant Information\nProgram Dates: May 24th, 2027 to July 30th, 2027\nPosition Type: Temporary position payrolled through a third-party provider\nApplication Deadline: October 15, 2026\nOur purpose guides the way\nIn Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges.
