Senior Data Engineer (Maternity Cover)

What we are looking for:

NRC Norway is looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer for a maternity cover position.

You’ll play a key role in building and optimising the data infrastructure that enables NRC to turn complex data into actionable insights. You will design and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes in Microsoft Fabric across data lakes and data warehouses, ensuring that data remains accessible, reliable, and secure. You will also advise on the use of alternative data products when Microsoft Fabric is not the most suitable solution.Working closely with data product managers, analysts and other stakeholders, you’ll translate business needs into effective data solutions, strengthen data quality and governance, and champion modern engineering practices, automation and innovation.

What you will do:

• Ensure that data at NRC is accessible and optimized for use in the organisation.

• Instigate collaboration with program managers and field staff to understand their data needs and ensure that data systems are aligned with operational goals.

• Provide technical leadership, support and guidance to non-technical teams on data processing methods and infrastructure setup.

• Implement best practices for data governance, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards.

• Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures, and a specific responsibility for the functions policies and procedures.

• Build data pipelines in Fabric to integrate internal and external data based on existing internal best

practices. This should reflect the current data needs set by SPK, other operational departments and field operations.

• Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of the Fabric environment, supporting secure data sharing across NRC.

• Contribute to developing the infrastructure, governance, and standards required to make data more discoverable and accessible.

• Build and evaluate systems and data pipelines on Microsoft infrastructure, including Azure and Power Apps, for use cases that fall outside Fabric’s scope, such as archiving solutions, and integrations with other NRC systems.

• Architect the data infrastructure inside and outside of Fabric to ensure it is optimized for performance and can handle the (large-scale) data requirements of the organisation.

• Proactively implement data validation checks, monitoring and error-handling processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data.

What you will bring:

• Provenexperience with IT projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related subjects, or demonstrable expertise in the field.

• Advanced analytical skills and problem-solving attitude.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable working with a geographically distributed team, and can easily work with non-technical colleagues

• Capable of operating in an "Agile" environment

• Fluency in written and spoken English. Other languages are an asset.

• Proactivein keepingup to datewith industry trends and innovation.

• 5+ years of experience shipping and maintaining code in production.

• Experience working with Microsoft Fabric or other Microsoft reporting tools.

• Experience or deep understanding of data architecture and data modelling.

• Solid knowledge of programming in Python, fundamentals of API design and security, familiarity with basic DevOps is a plus.

• In depth knowledge and comfortable working with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and nonrelational data (JSON format) including building, optimizing, debugging, and creating queries and safe migration scripts.

• Familiarity in working with enterprise information systems in general, and especially ERP and CRM, are desirable.

What we offer:

• Duty station: NRC Head Office in Oslo, NRC Representation Offices (excluding Geneva and Washington, DC), approved Employer of Record (EoR) countries, and other countries where NRC operates, provided they are within ±2 hours of Oslo time.

• Contract: Maternity Cover (12 Months).

• Travel: Up to 5%.

• Salary/benefits: Grade 9 on NRC’s Resident salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
