If you join our team, you'll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.\nAbout the Role\nThe Director, Electrical Engineering - North America is a senior, hands-on leadership role that owns the electrical basis of design and engineering governance across Nscale's U.S. data center portfolio. You'll define MV/LV distribution architectures, electrical equipment strategy, and controls and monitoring interfaces for facilities purpose-built for high-density AI deployments.\nYou'll set the electrical standards that let us scale rapidly while delivering high availability, high power density, and flexibility for future hardware generations. You'll also lead electrical technical due diligence on greenfield, brownfield, and colocation opportunities, assessing electrical architecture and power delivery constraints before we commit. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment and wants to build both the standards and the team that deliver our North American footprint.\nWhat You'll be Doing\nTechnical leadership and design ownership\nLead concept, schematic, and detailed design reviews for new builds and expansions.\nEstablish and maintain electrical design standards and reference architectures that enable repeatable, rapid deployment across the U.S.\nEnsure designs meet availability, maintainability, efficiency, and safety targets, and are suited to high-density AI workloads.\nProvide engineering support through long-lead equipment (LLE) procurement, submittals, RFIs, field changes, and issue resolution during construction.\nLead reviews of short-circuit and arc flash studies, including study assumptions, protective device coordination intent, equipment ratings, labeling requirements, and remediation actions needed to meet safety and compliance targets.\nImplement lessons learned from deployments, improve reliability and maintainability, and drive innovation in power distribution and energy efficiency.\nVendor, consultant, and team leadership\nSelect and manage architectural and engineering consultants through the design process, from schematic design to construction documents.\nEnforce quality and documentation standards through document issuance reviews.\nPartner cross-functionally with construction, commissioning, operations, procurement, and product and platform stakeholders to ensure electrical systems meet business and customer requirements.\nBuild and lead a high-performing team of engineers, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.\nColocation leasing support\nLead electrical technical due diligence for potential colocation sites, including utility feeds, redundancy, power density capability, available capacity headroom, operational maturity, and maintenance practices.\nReview and validate landlord and operator documentation, including basis of design, one-lines, protective device coordination study summaries, sequences of operation, maintenance records, incident history, and commissioning reports.\nDefine and negotiate electrical lease exhibits and technical schedules, including power capacity commitments, operating envelopes, maintenance windows, response SLAs, change control requirements, and metering and monitoring boundaries.\nEvaluate fit for high-density AI workloads, including available MW, expansion pathways, generator and UPS topology, and distribution limitations to the white space.\nSite acquisition support\nSupport early-stage site screening by defining electrical utility and constructability requirements, including interconnection approach, substation and utility constraints, redundancy targets, equipment yard and room requirements, and expansion capacity.\nLead electrical due diligence for greenfield and brownfield acquisitions, including existing infrastructure condition, remaining useful life, maintainability, and upgrade pathways.\nAssess site constraints and risks that affect electrical design and delivery, including MV routing, substation space, protection and coordination constraints, and space planning for electrical rooms, yards, and equipment setbacks.\nAbout You\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license.\n5+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with significant time in data center design.\n3+ years of engineering leadership experience, whether leading people, large multi-site programs, or both.\nStrong understanding of data center electrical systems and reliability concepts, including MV/LV distribution, switchgear and protection, UPS systems, generators, ATS/STS strategy, grounding and bonding, and commissioning practices for mission-critical electrical infrastructure.\nExperience working with U.S. engineering firms, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and state and local code variations.\nStrong presence and decision-making capability, with high judgment in high-consequence scenarios.\nA pragmatic, risk-based leadership style suited to fast-paced construction environments.\nAbility to challenge delivery teams constructively while maintaining strong partnerships.\nNice to Have\nExperience designing for high-density AI or HPC deployments, including liquid-cooled racks and next-generation GPU power requirements.\nOwner-side experience at a hyperscaler, neocloud, or data center developer.\nExperience with utility interconnection, on-site substations, or behind-the-meter power solutions.\nExperience negotiating technical terms in colocation or wholesale data center leases.\nMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.\nWhy this role matters\nPower is the defining constraint in AI infrastructure, and every Nscale facility in North America depends on getting the electrical design right the first time.
