This is a fully on-site role\nserving as the primary EHS leader responsible for implementing and maintaining programs\nthat protect employees, contractors, visitors, and business operations while ensuring\ncompliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards.\nThe EHS Manager will partner closely with Data Center Operations, Security, Logistics,\nFacilities Management, contractors, and the colocation provider to promote a strong safety\nculture, support operational readiness, and drive continuous improvement in environmental,\nhealth, and safety performance.\nThis position reports directly to the Director, EHS Operations & Sustainability - North\nAmerica.\nWork Location\nThis is a fully on-site position based in Madison, North Carolina.\nDaily presence at the facility is required to support operational activities, contractor\noversight, incident response, regulatory compliance, and engagement with the colocation\nprovider and Nscale operations teams.\nCandidates must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the Madison, NC area.\nKey Responsibilities\nEHS Program Management\nImplement and maintain site EHS programs, procedures, and standards.\nEnsure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health,\nand safety regulations.\nConduct routine inspections, audits, risk assessments, and workplace evaluations.\nTrack corrective actions and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.\nSupport implementation of corporate EHS initiatives, management systems, and\nreporting requirements.\nSafety Leadership & Culture\nPromote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, and\nvisible leadership.\nFacilitate safety meetings, training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness\ncampaigns.\nServe as a trusted advisor to site leadership on EHS matters.\nSupport development of a strong reporting culture for hazards, near misses, and\nincidents.\nFoster collaboration between Nscale personnel, contractors, and site partners.\nIncident Management\nLead incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action\nprocesses.\nTrack incidents, near misses, and performance trends.\nDevelop lessons learned and communicate findings to site leadership and corporate\nEHS teams.\nSupport emergency response and post-incident reviews.\nColocation Partner Management\nServe as the primary EHS liaison between Nscale and the colocation facility operator.\nParticipate in landlord safety meetings, operational reviews, audits, incident\ninvestigations, and emergency preparedness activities.\nCoordinate EHS requirements and expectations between Nscale personnel,\ncontractors, vendors, and the facility operator.\nEnsure Nscale personnel comply with both Nscale EHS requirements and applicable\ncolocation site rules and procedures.\nSupport alignment between Nscale operational activities and landlord safety\nrequirements.\nContractor Safety Management\nManage contractor safety oversight for Nscale activities within the colocation\nenvironment.\nReview work activities, risk assessments, permits, and safety plans as required.\nPartner with operations and facilities teams to ensure safe execution of maintenance\nand project work.\nMonitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements and applicable\nregulations.\nOperational Readiness & Business Support\nSupport equipment deployments, commissioning activities, logistics operations, and\noperational expansion efforts within the colocation environment.\nPartner with Operations, Security, Facilities Management, and the colocation provider\nto identify and mitigate operational risks.\nParticipate in operational readiness reviews, site planning activities, and change\nmanagement processes.\nSupport development and implementation of site-specific procedures, work practices,\nand contractor management programs.\nEnvironmental Compliance\nSupport environmental compliance activities applicable to Nscale operations within\nthe colocation facility.\nCoordinate waste management, hazardous materials management, spill prevention,\nand e-waste programs.\nMaintain required environmental records and documentation.\nSupport environmental reporting requirements as applicable.\nEmergency Preparedness\nCoordinate Nscale emergency response activities with the colocation provider's\nemergency management program.\nParticipate in emergency drills, tabletop exercises, and business continuity activities.\nMaintain readiness for medical, fire, severe weather, and other emergency scenarios.\nTraining & Compliance\nDeliver EHS onboarding and training programs for employees and contractors.\nMaintain training records and compliance documentation.\nSupport implementation and administration of EHS software and reporting systems.\nMonitor compliance with required EHS training and qualification programs.\nMetrics & Continuous Improvement\nTrack and analyze EHS performance metrics and leading indicators.\nPrepare reports and dashboards for site leadership and corporate management.\nIdentify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.\nSupport future certification, audit, and management system initiatives as required.\nQualifications\nRequired:\nBachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial\nHygiene, Engineering, or related field.\nMinimum 5 years of EHS experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities,\nmanufacturing, industrial operations, energy, technology, telecommunications, or\nsimilar environments.\nStrong knowledge of OSHA regulations and EHS management systems.\nExperience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.\nStrong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.\nAbility to work independently as the primary EHS resource at the site.\nPreferred\nExperience supporting data center or critical facilities operations.\nExperience working within a colocation environment.\nCSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH, or similar professional certification.\nExperience managing contractor safety programs.\nExperience with EHS software platforms and compliance management systems.\nTravel\nLimited travel within North America for training, collaboration, audits, and company\nmeetings. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as skill set, experience, education, and location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus, equity, and/or commission programs.
