This position is responsible for teaching courses within the program, developing and maintaining course materials, and aligning instruction with program objectives and evaluation procedures. Working 40 weeks within a 52-week academic year, faculty collaborates with colleagues, engages in professional development, and supports College initiatives to enhance the learning experience and achieve program goals.\nPlease Note: This position is in-person, located on campus in Wausau, Wisconsin. The position primarily works afternoon and evening hours. Specific hours may vary based on instructional needs.\nThis position is funded by a grant which has a projected grant end date of June 30, 2027. Funding for this position beyond this date is dependent upon budget and operational needs.\nThe English Language Learning (ELL) Instructor plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive language instruction and support to non-native English speakers enrolled in our college. This position requires a deep understanding of language acquisition theories, cultural sensitivity, and effective teaching methodologies to facilitate the linguistic and academic development of students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.\nEssential Functions and Responsibilities\nTeaching & Student Success:\nFacilitate student learning through engaging instructional strategies and methodologies across various modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid, and out-of-classroom activities, and mentoring students and peers.\nAdhere to NTC’s academic calendar, Student Connect hours, teaching assignments, post and maintain office hours, and conduct assigned classes for the scheduled length of time in accordance with the faculty contract.\nAssess and evaluate student performance by providing timely feedback and grades, maintaining accurate student records, attendance, and lab/clinical evaluations, in compliance with privacy laws, such as FERPA.\nDevelop and maintain course materials including outcome summaries, learning plans, Performance Assessment Tasks (PATs), syllabi, and online Learning Management System templates in the approved College format within designated timelines.\nSelect and utilize appropriate learning materials and resources including textbooks, library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning.\nReview, revise, and create curriculum in accordance with NTC academic standards and expectations.\nAssist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a new or modified course/certificate/program.\nStay current and focused on evolving learner needs and educational trends.\nProvide written evaluations upon the student’s request.\nSpecific Instructional Program Duties:\nCurriculum Development: Design and develop engaging and culturally relevant lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to the needs and proficiency levels of English language learners.\nInstructional Delivery: Deliver dynamic and interactive English language lessons using a variety of teaching methods, technologies, and authentic materials to promote language acquisition and fluency.\nLanguage Assessment: Administer and evaluate language assessments to determine students' proficiency levels, track progress, and identify areas for improvement.\nIndividualized Support: Provide personalized support and feedback to students through one-on-one tutoring sessions, language labs, and academic counseling to address specific language challenges and foster academic success.\nCultural Competency: Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects and celebrates students' diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.\nCollaboration: Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to integrate language learning strategies across the curriculum and support students' academic and professional goals. Provide guidance and support to program staff in grant management, reporting, and compliance activities.\nProfessional Development: Stay abreast of current trends, research, and best practices in English language teaching and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.\nAdministrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance assessments, and assist with program planning, evaluation, and accreditation processes as needed.\nCollege/Program Area Support:\nMaintain program documentation as required by accreditation, program, or clinical sites standards, if applicable.\nCoordinate with instructional support services to address student accommodation and modification needs, fostering an inclusive learning environment.\nEngage and participate in faculty development training, professional day activities, College in-service events, commencement, team time, and other designated College activities.\nAssist in onboarding and orienting new full-time, part-time, adjunct faculty, and other employees within the program or content area.\nActively participate in institutional, advisory and program team, and committee meetings.\nAttend College Open Houses (on-campus and off-campus, set-up and take down) to assist with student recruitment and in support of Student Services activities.\nBuild and maintain collaborative relationships with business and industry partners, community organizations, and K-12 partners to strengthen program connections.\nAssist, participate, support, and carry out all duties as assigned.\nProfessional Development:\nMaintain Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS)/Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS) and Higher Learning Commission qualification and meet requirements, accreditation or licensing standards, as applicable to program areas.\nMaintain professional certifications, licensures, and credentials as required by the specific program area.\nRemain up-to-date professionally in the area of content expertise and the teaching profession.\nMinimum Qualifications Required\nIn limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.\nEducation: Bachelor's Degree\nInstructors teaching English Language Learning (ELL) / English as a Second Language (ESL) courses must have one of the following:\nA Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in one of the following:\nTeaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)\nTeaching English as a Second Language (TESL)\nTeaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)\nForeign Language\nLinguistics\nBilingual Education\nOR\nA Bachelor’s degree or higher with a combination of at least 20 semester credits in one or more of the following areas:\nTeaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)\nTeaching English as a Second Language (TESL)\nTeaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)\nLinguistics\nBilingual Education\nDegrees That Commonly Satisfy These Requirements\nBA/BS Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)\nBA/BS Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)\nBA/BS Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)\nBA/BS Linguistics\nBA/BS Applied Linguistics\nBA/BS Bilingual Education\nBA/BS Foreign Language Education\nBA/BS English (with ESL/ELL-focused coursework)\nBA/BS Education (any level-Elementary/Secondary/Special Education/Alternative Education-with ESL/ELL or language acquisition emphasis AND/OR passing score on Praxis English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) test/DPI licensure)\nExperience: 2 Years\nAdditional ExperienceInformation:\nNTC will determine whether applicants meet the credentialing requirements of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS), the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), applicable accreditation standards, and/or occupational licensing standards.
