This role will design and engineer production grade automation, CI/CD integration, compliance verification, observability pipelines, and secure orchestration capabilities across a global estate. You will work across Python, PostgreSQL, Git based workflows, Jenkins pipelines, Ansible orchestration, secrets management, artefact management, and observability tooling to build resilient, auditable and scalable automation services.\nKey Responsibilities\n1. Automation Engineering & Orchestration\nDesign and build robust automation using Python and YAML.\nDevelop and maintain Ansible playbooks in Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for production orchestration.\nEnsure idempotent, restartable and state-aware automation patterns.\nIntegrate automation across distributed and IBM Z platforms (including z/OS job execution patterns where relevant).\nImplement failure handling, retry logic and operational guardrails.\n2. CI/CD & DevOps Toolchain Integration\nBuild and maintain pipelines in GitHub and Jenkins (including Groovy-based pipeline development).\nEmbed automated compliance checks and quality gates.\nIntegrate artefact management via Nexus Repository.\nSupport Git based workflow design (branching strategy, pull requests, code reviews, tagging and release patterns).\n3. Observability & Monitoring\nDesign dashboards and telemetry pipelines using Grafana.\nIntegrate logging/metrics with enterprise observability platforms (e.g. Splunk).\nBuild automated compliance and drift dashboards.\nCreate structured reporting for audit and operational governance.\n4. Data & Persistence\nDesign schemas and automation state handling in PostgreSQL.\nImplement run state tracking, job history retention, and audit evidence capture.\nOptimise queries and data handling for operational reliability.\n5. Security & Secrets Management\nImplement secure secret handling using HashiCorp Vault.\nIntegrate Vault with CI/CD and AAP workflows.\nApply least privilege principles and secure credential lifecycle management.\nContribute to enterprise standards for secrets, tokens and service accounts.\n6. Governance, Standards & Compliance\nEmbed compliance verification into pipelines (automated controls, evidence capture).\nContribute to standards for GitHub, Jenkins, AAP and workflow governance.\nSupport configuration drift detection and remediation automation.\nEnsure documentation suitable for internal risk, audit and regulatory stakeholders.\nRequired Technical Skills\nMust haves\nDevOps Experience: minimum 10+ years of demonstrable experience including solution design, governance, compliance and the implementation of DevOps best practice\nIBM Z Platform: At least 2 years’ experience of working within an IBM Z environment. Experience with zOSMF and zOAU would be a distinct advantage.\nExperience with enterprise scale Ansible via AAP.\nStrong Python development knowledge (production quality code, modular design, error handling, logging, testing).\nPostgreSQL (schema design, performance tuning, operational usage).\nYAML (clean, structured automation definitions).\nGit and Git based CI/CD practices.\nJenkins pipeline development (Groovy).\nGrafana dashboard development and metrics interpretation.\nNexus or equivalent artefact repository management.\nHashiCorp Vault integration and secrets automation\nTechnical leadership: Proven ability to mentor other engineers, provide technical guidance and embed engineering best practices across the team\nTechnical expertise: Strong hands on experience with Github, Jenkins, Ansible Automation Platform, Nexus, Python, Hashicorp Vault and API integration\nDesirable\nz/OS workflow tooling such as IBM z/OSMF and/or Zowe CLI.\nExperience with enterprise schedulers (e.g., IWS patterns).\nConfiguration drift management frameworks.\nAPI integration design.\nInfrastructure-as-Code governance models.\nObservability exporters and metrics pipelines.\nExperience in regulated financial environments.\nEngineering expectations\nThe successful candidate will:\nDesign automation as resilient systems, not scripts.\nBuild restartable and observable workflows.\nEngineer for failure scenarios (network issues, partial job completion, region specific failure cases).\nBalance simplicity with production robustness.\nDocument patterns reusable across global regions.\nThink in terms of architecture, not just tooling.\nBehavioural and leadership attributes\nStructured, systems level thinker.\nComfortable operating in a complex enterprise estate.\nAble to collaborate across distributed, mainframe and infrastructure teams.\nPragmatic but disciplined in standards enforcement.\nComfortable engaging with risk, audit and governance functions.\nDrives automation by design rather than manual workarounds.\nBenefits\nOur people are the most critical component of our long-term success and their health and wellbeing are our priority.
