Today’s ERPs don’t store a company’s financial data. They store a diluted copy of it. Every contract, lease, and invoice gets flattened into a journal entry, and the context that made it meaningful is thrown away. That’s why accounting teams spend every month re-checking numbers, stitching together spreadsheets, and waiting on engineering, and why AI struggles to do real accounting work. Accounting doesn’t have a reporting problem. It has a data problem.\nEnter Numeric: the data platform finance teams run on. We started with the month-end close, where the data problem hurts most, and hundreds of finance teams now run their close on Numeric. That work led us to rebuild the system of record itself. In September 2026 we launched the Financial Data Platform (FDP), a platform built for the agent era. Instead of a journal entry, the real business object enters the system and the accounting is derived from it. Every number is traceable to its source, reporting works on any dimension, and accountants and AI agents finally have enough context to work together. While others bolted AI features onto the old data model, we built a new one.\nWe have a growing base of customers who love our product, including Anthropic, Plaid, Brex, Betterment, Wealthfront, and Asana. We’ve raised $89M from top-tier investors including IVP, Menlo Ventures, Founders Fund, and 8VC, along with founders and executives from Ramp, Segment, and other category-defining companies. We’re hybrid but in-office first, with teams in New York, San Francisco, and London, and we just shipped the product that will define our next decade. There’s never been a better time to join.\nAbout the role\nPlatform Engineering at Numeric is engineering for engineering. Our customers are our own engineers and, increasingly, the AI agents working alongside them. The mission: make every engineer and agent dramatically more productive by building a shared platform, so anyone can go from idea to safely deployed change without bespoke setup or tribal knowledge. This role is the developer-infrastructure half of that mission - environments, CI/CD and deployment, infrastructure-as-code, environment parity, observability, security, and internal tooling. The current reality has gaps (deploys with no staging gate, migrations without clean rollback, a prod-DB-clone lock that blocks deploys, Terraform drift, two clouds where there should be one) and a roadmap to close them. You’d own pieces of that roadmap end to end and then watch engineers actually use them.\nWhat you might work on\nDeployment process: serialized, gated deploys across services; automated schema migrations with rollback; staging → production promotion that engineers trust.\n\nEnvironments & parity: local and remote dev environments that are reliable and fast to stand up; sandboxes and preview/review environments so reviewers can verify behavior, not just read code.\n\nAgent-First development: Including MCP gateways, governance, cost management, and foundation model selection.\n\nInfrastructure-as-code: Spacelift/OpenTofu, drift remediation, consolidating off DigitalOcean onto AWS, and IaC standards that are easy to follow by default.\n\nRepo standards & ownership: repository standards (linting, testing hierarchy, ownership manifests, idempotent onboarding), an ownership registry, and an internal developer portal.\n\nObservability foundations: local tracing/logging/metrics for every engineer, Datadog cost and hygiene, incident-management maturity, status pages.\n\nSecurity & access: unified secrets/config management, SSO in front of internal sites, IAM scoping, ECR scanning, audit logging, vulnerability management.\n\nAI Internal tools hosting: Numeric Labs - the platform that lets anyone at Numeric ship an internal tool without re-solving auth, hosting, and observability.\n\nYou might be a great fit if you…\nAre technically deep in infrastructure - AWS, containers/ECS, networking, IaC - and pragmatic about it.\n\nHave a product builder’s instinct for developer experience: sane defaults, tooling that teaches, “shipping means seeing it work successfully.”\n\nLike discovering the problem by meeting your users: pairing with engineers, watching onboarding, reading the friction in Slack.\n\nAre comfortable building in-house when it’s the right call (and explicit about when a third-party tool earns its place).\n\nWhat you need\n3+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time on infrastructure, platform, or developer-productivity work.\n\nConfidence with AWS, IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu or similar), CI/CD systems, and Linux/container fundamentals.\n\nStrong general-purpose programming skills (primarily TypeScript, Python where it fits).\n\nNice to have\nPrior experience with tools like Spacelift / Atlantis, Datadog / Firetiger / Chronosphere, or GitHub Actions / Buildkite\n\nRunning incident-management, defining SLAs, and keeping sites up through enormous traffic\n\nSupporting non-engineer contributors (e.g., support engineers shipping fixes with AI tools).\n\nStack: AWS (ECS, RDS, S3), OpenTofu/Terraform via Spacelift, GitHub Actions, Datadog, TypeScript / Node, Postgres, ClickHouse, Inngest.\nHow we work\nThis role is hybrid in San Francisco, in-office first.\nAs an engineer at Numeric you will learn the domain, meet your users, and exercise substantial creativity and agency over product direction. You'll work with a high-pace, high-integrity team that loves collaboration.\nWe believe the best company is the one with the best ICs and we’ve built a culture to maximize great work. We believe great product & engineering come from a desire to win, a deep care for the craft, and a pragmatism in shipping for overall impact. As engineers we ground our work in our understanding of the users, the domain, and the goals for our organization.\nWe strongly believe we will only be successful if everyone on the team is anchored in our following set of core principles:\nOwn the Outcome: We own our results. We typically hire builders and give them large mandates with high-trust. Engineers are responsible not just for code, but for ensuring the product is solving the end problems of the users.\n\nBrick by Brick: To win, our team needs to show up and execute in each domain every day.\n\nLove the Game: We focus on the craft and a deep sense of giving a f*ck. We’re building a company full of people who are equally engaged and motivated.\n\nEarn the right: Our ability to rethink how things are done depends on the trust and reputation we build by shipping quality products and improving the lives of our users.\n\nSALY: We refuse to accept “Same As Last Year.” We bring fresh eyes to a stagnated and underserved domain. We’re driven by a first-principles approach to building better solutions.\n\nRead some of our thoughts on engineering and company-building here.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6921,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"phd","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["AI Agents","Financial AI","Accounting & Tax Software"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-14T23:14:26Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":59,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.786,"p_room":0.75,"age_days":49,"expected_fill_days":53,"reasons":["conf:1","win:late"],"computed_at":"2026-11-03T05:54:40Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":250000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/numeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/numeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-04T00:49:24Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1154,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-05T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":6624},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=6624"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fnumeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fnumeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fnumeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/numeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fnumeric-software-engineer-developer-infrastructure"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":919379}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"numeric.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":919379},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
