Our ideal candidate is a hands-on, independent accounting professional with hedge fund experience who quickly builds strong working relationships with stakeholders.\nThis opportunity will be remote, based in Texas.\nAbout you\nYou've built a career in hedge fund or alternative investment accounting, have owned the full accounting cycle, and you're ready to take that ownership to the next level as a solo operator. You're motivated by running the whole function and taking full accountability for its accuracy, integrity, and controls, not just executing within it. You’re self-directed and think like an owner: anticipating issues before they surface, setting the processes others will follow, and being the final word on the numbers.\nWhat You’ll Do\nFull ownership of the accounting function, including books, records, and internal controls, maintained in Xero.\nOwn the monthly PNL reconciliation process with investors, confidently identifying and resolving discrepancies to ensure the firm’s numbers are accurate and well-supported. If the numbers don’t line up, you’re the one who digs in, makes the case, and doesn’t back down until it’s resolved correctly.\n\nBuild strong, trust-based relationships with clients and stakeholders, to quickly and efficiently resolve discrepancies.\n\nReview and approve all supplier invoices, with an eye toward cost control and ensuring the firm is never overpaying for expenses, resolving discrepancies if they arise.\n\nManage payroll across the US and Canada using ADP, accurately and on schedule.\n\nEnsuring the accounting books, records and related internal controls are appropriate for audit.\n\nDesign, document, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls appropriate for the company’s size and regulatory environment.\n\nOwn everything that touches money, including managing bank accounts, all ad hoc banking tasks, transfers, and money-related HR tasks.\n\nWhat You Bring\n7+ years of accounting experience, including prior experience owning a full accounting function inside a hedge fund or alternative investment fund.\n\nHands-on general ledger ownership, running books independently without oversight.\n\nExperience reconciling internal PNL to an external party’s calculation.\n\nDemonstrated ability to identify and resolve discrepancies with confidence, including experience advocating for a position with an external party and supporting it with clear, accurate data.\n\nStrong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to maintain productive working relationships even in the context of firm, direct communication.\n\nProficiency or fast ability to ramp on Xero and ADP for both US and Canada payroll.\n\nComfortable being the sole finance person in the building -
