This Mechanical Engineer will work with the Sustaining Engineering team to provide support for the development of a heavy ion linear accelerator, beamlines, solid and gaseous target stations, and radiochemistry equipment and machinery. To execute this project, we are looking to add talented people to the team who are mission-driven, provide diverse perspectives, and who have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. This team member will be primarily responsible for beamline assembly, installation, and continued support during commissioning and operating phases.\nResponsibilities:\nAssembly of beamline components including vacuum systems, magnets, beam diagnostics, and supporting utilities\n\nCollaborate with design engineering to refine designs and mechanical documentation\n\nTake full ownership of delivering beamline subsystems\n\nCollaborate with physics and operations to meet accelerator performance and up time needs\n\nManage projects with efficient utilization of staff, schedule, and budget\n\nParticipate in and refine tests in qualify and evaluate the performance of equipment\n\nRespond to questions concerning engineering design, assembly and operation of beamline subsystems\n\nProvide oral and written reporting on project status to project and upper management stakeholders\n\nWork with vendors and internal resources to fabricate, assemble, and validate components and systems\n\nTrain staff to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshoot systems\n\nPerform with a safety mindset at the forefront of all work\n\nMinimum Requirements:\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field\n\nRelated professional work experience (engineering design and assembly, new product integration, manufacturing support engineering)\n\nDemonstrated understanding of mechanical design\n\nExperience with advanced knowledge and judgment in most of the following areas:\nHigh or Ultra-high vacuum systems\n\nWater cooling systems (piping, valves, flow sensors, flow meters, fittings, seals)\n\nPneumatic systems (valves, actuators, tube bending, fittings, seals)\n\nWelding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes and techniques\n\n3D CAD Design and drafting in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM\n\nProject management abilities defined as the ability to control scope, cost, and schedule\n\nMetrology, inspection, quality control, and test methods related to manufacturing\n\nAbility to interact and communicate efficiently with researchers, engineers, designers, machinists, and engineering technicians to provide a high level of customer service\n\nKnowledge of and ability to use basic hand tools for mechanical assembly, wiring, and plumbing\n\nFully proficient with digital productivity tools (Microsoft Office products)\n\nDemonstrated analytical thinking and rapid learning\n\nPreferred Experience:\nTechnical experience with the installation and commissioning of precision scientific, mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing, or vacuum systems\n\nSetting up manufacturing cells, process, and practices\n\nRigging, forklift, or overhead crane operation\n\nExperience working with a quality program and quality standards\n\nExperience running and supervising small teams of technical\n\nPhysical Requirements\nMust be able to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.\n\nWork to be conducted on Assembly floor, production facility, and office Environment\n\nMust be comfortable working as a radiation worker\n\nAbout Nusano\nNusano is a privately held physics company working to stabilize supply chains, advance American national security, and enable once-in-a-generation innovations in fields ranging from healthcare to nuclear energy.\nNusano is commercializing platform technologies for radioisotope production, stable isotope enrichment, and advanced separation techniques.
