This Senior R&D Radiochemist will own significant chemistry workstreams from end-to-end as related to isotope production. This role designs and executes complex experiments, applies quality-by-design (QbD) principles, mentors early-career scientists, and resolves cross-functional technical issues. This role collaborates cross-functionally to support and advance new isotope products and improve existing processes. This is an onsite role based out of our West Valley City offices.\nResponsibilities:\nLead planning, execution and troubleshooting of chemistry development workstreams\nDesign and execute complex experiments, analyze data, and recommend next steps for assigned workstream.\n\nApply QbD principles and lead risk-based assessments for assigned programs.\n\nDrive continuous improvement of chemistry processes and workflows.\n\nSupport benchtop-to-hot cell scale-up activities and process hand-off to Operations.\n\nCoordinate with safety and other experts to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements for new product development and production.\n\nProvide subject matter expertise during cross-functional investigations and technical discussions.\n\nMentor early-career scientists\nProvide guidance in experimental execution, data analysis, and documentation.\n\nProvide guidance on laboratory best practices, safety, and compliance.\n\nSupport development and delivery of staff training for experiment execution and data analysis.\n\nSupport onboarding of new staff through informal coaching.\n\nTechnical documentation\nGenerate high-quality technical documentation, including development reports and experimental records.\n\nMaintain accurate laboratory notebooks and ensure data integrity through peer review.\n\nFollow chemical and radiological safety procedures and support continuous improvement of safe laboratory practices.\n\nEducation and Experience Requirements:\nPh.D. in radiochemistry, inorganic chemistry, nuclear engineering, or related field with a minimum of 4-6+ years progressive experience, OR M.S. with 6-8+ years of experience.\n\nDemonstrated success owning complex development workstreams.\n\nPreferential Experience:\nExperience developing radiochemical separation methods or other chemistry manufacturing processes (ion exchange and extraction chromatography, liquid-liquid extraction, electroplating, thermal reduction, etc.).\n\nFamiliarity with analytical instrumentation (HPGe, gamma counter, pH meter, autotitrator, ICP-MS/OES, etc.).\n\nAutomation of chemical processes.\n\nHands-on experience with gamma, beta, and/or alpha emitters in gloveboxes or hot cells.\n\nChemical and radiological laboratory safety (regulatory and best practices).\n\nExperience working in regulated environments (ICH Q7, 21 CFR 211/212).\n\nExperience generating CMC content to support regulatory filings.\n\nStrong technical writing skills.\n\nOther Skills:\nStrong scientific judgment and problem-solving skills.\n\nHighly organized and detail oriented.\n\nAbility to lead workstreams with a high degree of technical independence.\n\nEffective communication across technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nCommitment to safety, quality, and scientific rigor.\n\nAbility to foster an inclusive and cooperative work environment.\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nMust be comfortable working as a radiation worker.\n\nWork to be conducted in both an office environment and production facility.\n\nAbility to work sitting and standing for extended periods, grasping/gripping, fine motor control with hands.\n\nAbility to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 30 lbs.\n\nAbility to travel 2-8 weeks per year for experiments, visiting vendors, and attending conferences.\n\nAbout Nusano\nNusano is a privately held physics company working to stabilize supply chains, advance American national security, and enable once-in-a-generation innovations in fields ranging from healthcare to nuclear energy.\nNusano is commercializing platform technologies for radioisotope production, stable isotope enrichment, and advanced separation techniques.
