Work may be performed remotely within the contiguous United States, with travel as needed for business needs.\nPOSITION SUMMARY: PlantSystems Engineering team focuses on the design and integration of the Balance of Site (BOS) systems in the power plant utilizing NuScale SMRs. Mechanical Engineer in Plant Systems Engineering develops design requirements for the BOS mechanical systems and provides oversight and technical support to NuScale’s design partners in developing the system designs for projects. The engineer will work closely with multi-discipline teams (both internal and external) to resolve design challenges, plans and execute work to support project scope.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nSupports the development of design requirements and the integration of BOS system designs into the overall plant architecture \nProvides technical oversight and support to NuScale’s design partners in developing the BOS system designs for projects.\nPrepares and reviews technical documents as required to support project work. \nPlans, organizes, and performs complex assignments in a team environment.\nEngages and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. \nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nCORE COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, the individual should demonstrate competencies in performing the essential functions of this position by performing satisfactorily in each of these competencies.\nProblem solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and reviews information appropriately. An active PE license in applicable engineering discipline is desirable but not required.\n Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant full-time professional experience, or minimum 3 years with an advanced degree. Specific areas of knowledge and experience desired, but not limited to the following:Design and operation of balance of plant process and fluid systems (e.g., HVAC, radioactive waste systems, feedwater, main steam, water systems, etc.) and mechanical components (e.g., pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, condensers, piping, etc.), preferably in the nuclear power plant or other industrial facility\nUnderstanding of thermal-fluid systems, hydraulic analyses, and heat balance model \nUnderstanding of NRC regulations and guidelines related to nuclear systems, radioactive waste systems, and balance of plant systems\nUnderstanding of applicable industry codes and standards, and best practice guidelines such as ASME BPVC, EPRI, etc.\nExperience in preparation and review of engineering design work products such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams, system hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations, design specifications, equipment specifications, engineering reports and studies, etc.\nExperience reviewing and managing engineering deliverables from contractors, suppliers, and consulting organizations\n\nIndustry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810. \nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
