From new line development and system upgrades to critical maintenance projects, our teams apply rigorous standards of safety, quality, and performance while leveraging proven practices and innovative technologies to deliver sustainable, cost-effective solutions for our clients.\nThe Director of Transmission Engineering is a senior leadership position responsible for directing the planning, design, and execution of transmission line projects. This role leads multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams, ensures compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality requirements, and aligns project delivery with NV5’s strategic objectives. The Director collaborates across business groups and with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners to advance innovation, improve efficiency, and promote operational excellence.\nWhy NV5?At NV5, we understand the aging electrical grid faces significant challenges. We use in-house talent, expertise and resources to plan, design, engineer, manage, and conduct inspections on construction projects.\nNV5’s integrated service capabilities deliver efficiency, consistency, attention to detail, and safe project execution. Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in engineering, safety, quality, procurement, QA/QC, right-of-way, scheduling, environmental planning, permitting, and land management to achieve successful outcomes for our clients.\nResponsibilities\nAct as the engineer of record and client point of contact for power delivery projects.\n\nLead a team of 6-10 direct reports and an extended team of 30-40 resources which include engineers, designers, and drafters.\n\nAssist in marketing, promotion and business development efforts retain and add new national clients.\n\nPrepare, review, and P.E. seal technical calculation reports and construction documents meeting client and NV5 requirements.\n\nAssist in the routing and design of transmission lines using industry-standard tools.\n\nCollaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.\n\nManage multiple projects and provide engineering QA/QC \n\nTravel to client sites as needed.\n\nAssist with development of construction packages. \n\nOversee the planning, design, and execution of transmission projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements. \n\nDevelop project budgets, schedules, and resource plans, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. \n\nManage risks and resolve issues that may impact project scope, quality, and delivery. \n\nProvide technical guidance and expertise in the design and optimization of transmission systems. \n\nStay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes, and integrate best practices into the engineering processes. \n\nEnsure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all engineering activities. \n\nContribute to the development of the company's strategic plans and objectives, particularly in the areas of transmission infrastructure. \n\nIdentify and evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, and technologies that can enhance the company's competitive position. \n\nCollaborate with other departments within Power Delivery and also Operations, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs, to align engineering initiatives with broader business goals. \n\nRepresent the company at industry forums, conferences, and regulatory meetings, advocating for the company's interests and promoting its capabilities. \n\nRequirements\nBachelor of Science degree (B.S.) or Graduate degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university.\n\nExperience with understanding and managing project financials and overall P&L of the team\n\nExperience leading a team to produce quality transmission construction ready designs.\n\nKnowledge and Proficiency with PLS CADD, PLS Pole, MFAD, PLS-Tower a plus\n\n12+ years’ experience in the electric utility industry performing engineering related duties and/or management for high voltage electrical projects.\n\nPE license is a must.
