This role has a strong focus on automation, tooling, and software development applied to large-scale HPC and VDI environments.\nIn this role, you will work closely with your global colleagues within R&D IT and help deliver the HPC services (High Performance Computing and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) to our design engineers. You will spend a significant portion of your time designing and building automation solutions that reduce manual effort, increase reliability, and accelerate delivery across our infrastructure.\nYour European team has operational responsibility for all designated services within the region and helps provide backup support to our other two regions (India and the US). The team keeps a healthy mix of 50% development and 50% operational activities, requiring a constant eye on innovation. You can contribute in every development phase - from problem analysis and design to implementation, testing, and continuous improvement.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, and maintain automation solutions to manage configuration, deployment, and lifecycle of Linux systems and HPC services at scale.\nBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and automated testing frameworks to support continuous delivery of platform changes.\nDevelop and maintain system configurations, base images, and deployment strategies using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.\nCreate reusable automation libraries, scripts, and tooling to reduce manual operational effort and improve system reliability.\nOversee the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Linux systems and services; ensure system performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and optimization.\nCreate and enforce policies and standards related to Linux system administration, security, and compliance; develop best practices for system configuration, access methods, and base image creation.\nParticipate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for end users.\nCollaborate with global teams to deliver HPC and VDI solutions supporting critical R&D operations.\nParticipate in Agile activities such as PI Planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives, and releases.\nEngage with users and stakeholders to provide technical guidance and continuously improve delivered solutions.\nTroubleshoot and resolve system and deployment issues through effective root-cause analysis.\nEnsure solutions meet standards for security, performance, scalability, availability, and maintainability.\nDrive continuous improvement through innovation, automation, and DevOps engineering best practices.\nMaintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, automation workflows, policies, and procedures.\nParticipate in solution architecture, technical reviews, and technology evaluations to ensure alignment with organizational goals.\nRequired Skills\nBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.\nApproximately 5-7 years of experience in DevOps, automation engineering, or platform engineering roles.\nStrong proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Perl, or equivalent languages.\nHands-on experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.\nSolid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent tools.\nSkilled Linux System Administration experience with RedHat or similar distributions.\nExtensive AWS experience, preferably with certifications; familiarity with cloud-native automation and IaC.\nSolid DevOps mindset with ability to evaluate and optimize processes using Lean or Agile methodologies.\nStrong knowledge of Unix/Linux command-line tools, shell scripting, and automation best practices.\nExperience integrating automation with APIs, databases, and enterprise platforms.\nGreat problem-solving and analytical skillset to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues at OS level and application level.\nExperience in stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering, solution design, and cross-functional collaboration.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.\nPreferred Skills\nExperience developing automation frameworks or internal tooling platforms (e.g., self-service portals, workflow engines, monitoring integrations).\nKnowledge of container technologies (Docker, Podman) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift) for automation workloads.\nHaving knowledge and hands-on experience with Grid computing applications like LSF or Slurm, and Linux desktop environments.\nFamiliarity with semiconductor design and verification tools and workflows.\nKnowledge of networking concepts, including bridging, synchronization, queuing, and communication protocols.\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted development, code review tools, or LLM-based automation is an advantage.\nAdditionally, you should possess:\nExperience in mentoring junior engineers.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to new technologies.\nProficiency in written and verbal communication.\nA results-oriented mindset.\nAbility to influence non-technical audiences with data insights.\nSelf-driven professional with a strong sense of ownership and the
