Schwarzman Building is part of The New York Public Library, which consists of four major research libraries and 88 branch libraries located in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Often referred to as the \"main branch,\" the Beaux-Arts landmark building on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street houses outstanding research collections in the humanities and social sciences as well as a circulating children’s collection.\n\nNYPL is seeking a Library Attendant Guard to maintain an environment that is safe and comfortable for our Library users and employees. The Library Attendant Guard is the first line of security at NYPL buildings. They will respond to emergencies, perform general security duties, and document unusual incidents. The Library Attendant Guard must work as a member of the Security team, act professionally and demonstrate courtesy and respect to all.\n*Must be available to work evening, overnight and/or weekend hours*\n\nResponsibilities\n Under the general supervision of an Assistant Security Supervisor, the Library Attendant Guard:\nEnforces the Library’s rules of conduct for all patrons and visitors.\nPeriodically tours building and grounds, examining doors and windows to determine whether they are secure and not tampered with\nConfronts unauthorized persons for questioning, and call for assistance from security office or police, according to the circumstances\nEnsures that Library users, staff and other outside contractors adhere to the rules of security to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury\nProvide security presence at special events, including private screenings, parties, etc.\nWrite comprehensive reports of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidents\nReports any unusual conditions or malfunctions in heating, plumbing, electrical or other parts of the buildings mechanical systems to facilities services\nUtilize Security Technology as part of the security strategy\nRequired to work at any assigned post and other NYPL facilities as needed\nPerforms related duties as required\nRequired Education, Experience & Skills\nRequired Education & Certifications\nHigh School Diploma or GED\nMust have a valid New York State Security Guard Registration\nRequired Experience\nPrior security experience\nRequired Skills\nGood verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff and public\nAbility to work at any assigned post\nMust pass physical examination\nMore...\nCore Values\nAll team members are expected and encouraged to embody the NYPL Core Values:\nBe Helpful to patrons and colleagues\nBe Resourceful in solving problems \nBe Curious in all aspects of your work\nBe Welcoming and Inclusive\nWork Environment\nPublic library setting\nPhysical Duties\nRemain stationary for prolonged periods and conduct patrols\nHeavy lifting may be required\nPre-Placement Physical Required?\nYes\nUnion/Non Union\n Local 374\nFLSA Status\nNon-Exempt\nSchedule\n40 hours per week\nEvening and weekend hours required as needed\nThis job description represents the types and levels of responsibilities that will be required of the position and shall not be construed as a declaration of all of the specific duties and responsibilities for the role.
