The incumbent will accession specimens and perform bacterial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Bacterial Culture methods will include microbiological methods for bacterial isolation, identification, serotyping, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing will be performed. Molecular testing methods will include real-time PCR, Next generation sequencing (whole-genome and minION), DNA sequencing, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The Research Scientist I will also contribute to assay development to understand the utility of conventional and molecular methods for the detection and understanding and characterization of bacterial pathogens. Additionally, the RSI will work with specimens, utilize a data information management system, provide results of testing, and contribute to laboratory wide clinical testing roles. The RSI may also travel to conferences and present posters, as well as make contributions to manuscript, SOP writing, reports and provide presentations as needed.\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and two years of research experience; OR a master’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.\nThis position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements.
