This on-the-job training will give participants a thorough understanding of community program development practices and general office functions in preparation for entry into the competitive workforce. Resident Interns will support the following program areas listed under essential functions: Civic Engagement, Site Services Family Self Sufficiency (FSS), Resident Opportunity Services (ROSS), Leadership; Homeownership; or General Support.\nInternship Objectives\nGain an overall understanding of OHA resident supportive services needs and become familiar with community resources; and\nDevelop competencies in program development and implementation; and\nDevelop skills successfully using database software and track program benchmarks; and\nLearn and implement marketing and networking strategies.\nPersonal Development \nDevelop planning, organizational and time management skills; and\nIncrease knowledge of computer skills and technology; and\nDevelop team-based work competencies and professional ethics; and\nLearn effective referral procedures.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nUnder FCP staff supervision Resident Interns will assist in implementing programs related to employment, education, and leadership development. Assignments are characterized by the following essential functions:\nCivic Engagement and Leadership Program Support\nProvides support to civic engagement and leadership development programs for OHA residents and the surrounding community; and\nAssists in developing, facilitating, and implementing outreach and recruitment efforts, workshops, and special events; and\nProvide front desk assistance; and\nAssists with keeping meeting minutes and notes; and\nAssists with maintaining and updating leadership materials and tracking sheets for all leadership programs; and\nMaintains logs of participant communication and internship activities; and\nAssists in mediating conflicts between OHA participants and discusses all incidents and areas of concern with FCP staff.\nGeneral Support\nOutreaches program information and greets program participants in a friendly and welcoming manner; and\nParticipates in public speaking activities; and\nFacilitates site meetings and conducts outreach activities; and\nAssists in planning and implementing programs and events; and\nSets up and breaks down spaces for events; and\nOrganizes files and performs data entry; and\nSeeks out and maintains relationships with community agencies; and\nProvides support to residents accessing the computer lab; and\nManages email distribution list.\nMARGINAL FUNCTIONS\nWork evenings, weekends and perform other work-related duties as required.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATION\nHigh School Diploma/GED or must be able to provide verification of enrollment in GED classes upon commencement of internship.\nMust be a legal resident/participant of an Oakland Housing Authority housing program; on the lease/voucher and in good standing.\nSome applicable work experience and/or training preferred.\nCollege units are a plus.\nJob placement will be contingent upon the applicant passing the drug testing.\nStrong desire for a career in community supportive services or education.\nBilingual skills in ASL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and/or Spanish are a plus.\nEquivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.\nKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY\nKNOWLEDGE OF:\nModern office practices\nBasic computer functions including: the Microsoft Office Suite and Excel spreadsheets\nInternet navigation\nElectronic correspondence\nPhotocopier and scanning office equipment\nLandline and mobile telephone systems. \nABILITY TO:\nBe self-motivated\nDeliver excellent customer service to program participants and customers\nMaintain confidentiality\nExercise patience, professionalism and sensitivity with a diverse population\nCommunicate effectively both orally and in writing.\nTO APPLY: Please complete and submit an employment application online at www.oakha.org.
