Join us!\nHow do we work?\nWe're looking for a Senior Software Engineer experienced in building scalable, low-latency TypeScript/Node.js microservices that power our next-generation Trading Platform. You'll be joining a team of engineers developing real-time financial APIs - from live price streaming and order execution to portfolio management - running at scale on Google Cloud Platform.\nWe are a highly agile group of people working closely together towards the same goal of providing the best client experience possible. The team consists of engineers working from multiple countries. We build and own a suite of microservices that form the backbone of OANDA's Universal Platform - a modern, cloud-native trading API layer. We believe that our experience, passion, and industry knowledge will ensure OANDA's Trading Platform success and the prosperity of our customers.\nThis role is available on a B2B contract basis.\nAs a Senior Software Engineer you will:\nDesign and implement low-latency, high-availability APIs using Node.js 22, TypeScript, Koa, and GCP (GKE, Cloud Run, Artifact Registry)\n\nWork with real-time data pipelines built on Kafka, Redis, ZeroMQ, and SSE streaming\n\nWrite reusable, testable, and maintainable code across a TypeScript monorepo with Lerna\n\nMonitor and improve service performance using Prometheus metrics and Grafana dashboards\n\nLeverage AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as a standard part of your daily engineering workflow\n\nLead proof-of-concept efforts for candidate architectures and contribute to architectural decisions\n\nShare knowledge, review colleagues' code, and raise the bar for engineering quality across the team\n\nContribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle\n\nOnboard, understand our microservices architecture, and deploy your first code to production within your first month.\n\nTake full ownership of feature development, contribute to architectural improvements, and drive cross-team technical initiatives.\n\nWhat skillset do you need to be successful in this role?\nProduction experience with Node.js microservices (Node 18+, ideally Node 22)\n\nStrong TypeScript skills\n\nExperience designing and operating real-time or event-driven systems (Kafka, Redis, SSE, WebSockets, or similar)\n\nPractical experience with metrics, monitoring, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent)\n\nExperience with GCP or another major cloud platform (GKE, Cloud Run, Artifact Registry)\n\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated release workflows (semantic-release, CircleCI, or equivalent)\n\nComfortable working in a monorepo with shared internal packages and versioned integrations\n\nPractical knowledge of relational databases and SQL (querying, schema design, indexing)\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with financial market data (pricing, order execution, portfolio management)\n\nExperience with AI-assisted development tooling (Claude Code, Cursor)\n\nBackground working with OpenAPI specifications and contract-first API design\n\n___\nAt OANDA, to help us efficiently process applications, we use AI-driven tools to help source and rank candidates based on professional experience and skills.
