Both behind the scenes within the warehouses and across the front end of the customer experience, we now have an opportunity for an Area Manager to join the team.\nAs an Area Manager at the Erith, you will be crucial in leading, motivating, and supporting your operational team to maintain exceptional health and safety standards, drive people engagement, and ensure the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) in a dynamic, 24/7 environment. This role exists to foster a culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and outstanding employee experience within your business unit.\nThis is a day or night role with a 12.5-hour shift starting at 05:00 AM or 05:00 PM, following a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.\nYou will be:\nUsing your management skills to lead and motivate teams in a time-sensitive operational environment, focusing on safety, welfare, and conduct.\nApplying your Health & Safety knowledge to ensure exceptional standards, promoting a positive safety culture, and completing detailed adverse event investigations.\nUtilising your people management experience to maintain an exceptional employee experience, drive training/coaching, and address key people KPIs like labour turnover and absence %.\nUsing your operational focus to contribute to performance improvement, maintain excellent housekeeping, and ensure adherence to food safety mechanisms.\nLeveraging your communication and numeracy skills to manage daily operations, deliver pre-shift briefings, and report on specific area KPI metri\nYou will also be expected to\nUndertake tiered management/personal shopper tasks if needed.\nStand/walk for extended periods.\nLift objects weighing up to 30kg (periodically from shoulder height).\nWear protective equipment.\nTrain to use Mechanical Handling Equipment.\nWork in environments ranging from 30°C to -30°C.\nSupport other sites from time to time.\nWork shifts, including weekends, in an operational 24/7 environment\nAbout You\nThe ideal Area Manager candidate must possess the following non-negotiables:\nPrevious management experience in a warehouse or logistics environment.\nExperience and knowledge of best practice Health & Safety ways of working.\nStrong verbal and written communication and numeracy skills, used to working with and interpreting large volumes of data.\nStrong performance management knowledge and practical experience of conducting disciplinary & grievance investigations.\nWorking knowledge of computerised warehouse management systems and core operating reporting tools.\nDesirable (in addition to minimum):\n\nFood Safety compliance knowledge.\nExperience of working in a 24/7 productivity-conscious operation.\nMechanical Handling Equipment - Current qualifications / previous experience.\nPrevious experience in a continuous improvement environment & demonstrable problem-solving skills.\nIOSH accreditation.\nWhat you can expect to receive in return\nAt Ocado we believe in a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported, so you’ll find a safe and collaborative atmosphere that is as fresh as our produce as well as an award winning recognition programme and benefits package that includes a healthy work-life balance, extensive healthcare coverage, competitive salaries, and exclusive employee discounts.
