Radio waves attenuate quickly underwater, so our systems use sound, much like whales and dolphins, to transmit high-bandwidth data, including video. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to help build our next-generation modems and other cutting-edge undersea technology. This role is a strong fit for a recent electrical engineering graduate who has solid fundamentals, enjoys hands-on hardware work, and wants to grow quickly by working on real products.\nYou will work closely with experienced electrical, embedded software, signal processing, and mechanical engineers across the full product lifecycle. Rather than working on one small piece of a large organization, you will have visibility into complete systems, from circuit boards and firmware to undersea drones and customer deployments.\nAbout Us\nUnderwater, the wireless transfer of a single picture used to take an hour. OceanComm brought to market wireless modems that transfer data 100 to 1,000 times faster. Legacy modems were largely status and command links; our modems can control undersea drones with live video feedback, fundamentally changing what operators can see, decide, and do underwater. Leading organizations in defense, offshore energy, and oceanographic research rely on OceanComm to keep their undersea systems connected.\nWhat You Will Do\nDesign, build, and test analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics with guidance from experienced engineers\nCreate and modify schematics and PCB layouts for new products and hardware revisions\nBring up prototype circuit boards and troubleshoot hardware using laboratory test equipment\nAssist with component selection, circuit analysis, design verification, and documentation\nDevelop test setups and write simple scripts or firmware to support hardware testing\nDebug problems involving electronics, firmware, power, and sensors\nIntegrate and test our modems with undersea drones and other advanced maritime systems\nEvaluate new components, technologies, and technical approaches for future designs\nRequirements\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 0-2 years of relevant experience\nStrong understanding of core electrical engineering concepts, including analog circuits, digital electronics, and signals and systems\nHands-on experience designing, building and debugging electronic circuits through coursework, personal projects, internships, student teams, or professional work\nComfortable using common laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, function generators, and logic analyzers\nAbility to read schematics and understand basic PCB designs\nFamiliarity with common electronic components, including op-amps, transistors, voltage regulators, ADCs/DACs, and microcontrollers\nExposure to digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, or Ethernet\nExperience with an electronic design automation tool such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Eagle\nAbility to clearly document designs, test results, and technical findings\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\nWillingness to travel, with occasional periods up to 20% depending on project phase\nU.S. Person\nWhat Will Put You Ahead\nExperience designing and assembling PCBs through coursework, personal projects, internships, student teams, or professional work\nCoursework or projects involving analog signal processing, filters, amplifiers, ADCs/DACs, or low-noise circuits\nExperience with C/C++ and embedded software development\nExperience using Python to automate testing or analyze measurement data\nAn interest in acoustics, communications, robotics, marine technology, or signal processing\nBenefits\nCompetitive base salary and incentive stock options\nPaid vacation starting at 20 days per year, increasing with tenure\nPaid sick leave with carryover\nFlexible schedule with core hours\nClose mentorship and training from experienced engineers and technical leaders\nProfessional development support for conferences, books, courses, or technical training\nHands-on work with advanced acoustic, embedded, and undersea robotics hardware\nCompensation\nThe pay range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual pay will depend on the candidate’s experience and skills demonstrated during interviews and other evaluations.\nOceanComm is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vet.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4434,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Flexible schedule","Professional development","Stock options"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-13T10:44:15Z"}],"liveness":{"score":35,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.634,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":37,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:8","win:tail","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-09-30T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":130000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/oceancomm-electrical-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/oceancomm-electrical-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T05:07:24Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4803,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":197,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
