Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer supports Morgan City engineering activities for both small and large projects, as well as individual components of complex projects within Oceaneering's Subsea Robotics (SSR) and Offshore Projects Group (OPG). Typical work scopes include, but are not limited to, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Intervention Workover Control Systems (IWOCS), ROV Workover Control Systems (RWOCS), ROV tooling, survey systems, installation and light construction projects, diving operations, inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) activities, and other assignments as directed by the Engineering Team Lead or Engineering Manager.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the full product and project lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, engineering analysis, manufacturing support, testing, offshore operations, and field support. Key responsibilities include developing and reviewing engineering deliverables, performing calculations and analyses, conducting design reviews, supporting manufacturing and supply chain activities, troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring compliance with client requirements, applicable industry standards, and Oceaneering policies and procedures.

Work Location and Travel

  • Role provides the opportunity to work in hybrid environment, working both virtually and in office when required.

  • Position may require some travel including internationally and offshore.

  • Ability to travel offshore up to 20% of the time.

ESSENTIAL

  • Ensure engineering activities are conducted in accordance with Oceaneering policies, processes, and safety requirements, with a strong focus on personnel and environmental safety.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with client requirements, contract specifications, and applicable industry standards including ISO, API, ANSI, DNV, AWS, and other relevant codes.

  • Perform conceptual and detailed mechanical design, engineering analysis, and design verification for subsea equipment, tools, and systems.

  • Design mechanical systems and equipment that interface with ROVs, subsea hardware, and related offshore systems.

  • Develop and review engineering calculations, design packages, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, system layouts, and technical documentation.

  • Prepare and review engineering specifications, procedures, work instructions, test procedures, user manuals, and related technical documents.

  • Evaluate existing designs and implement improvements related to performance, reliability, manufacturability, safety, and cost.

  • Select appropriate materials, coatings, cathodic protection systems, and corrosion mitigation solutions for subsea applications.

  • Design pressure-containing and pressure-tolerant equipment, including systems requiring multiple electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical penetrations.

  • Support engineering projects, technical proposals, bids, and project execution activities.

  • Develop engineering cost estimates, schedules, work scopes, and progress reports.

  • Communicate project status, technical issues, risks, and recommendations to customers, project teams, and management.

  • Participate in internal and external design reviews and provide technical recommendations.

  • Evaluate equipment, components, and suppliers and support technical sourcing and supplier qualification activities.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, service, supply chain, project management, and field personnel to support successful project execution.

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities.

  • Develop and execute test programs for factory acceptance testing (FAT), system integration testing (SIT), qualification testing, certification testing, and field trials.

  • Attend and support FAT, SIT, offshore trials, commissioning activities, and customer demonstrations as required.

  • Perform technical evaluations, root cause investigations, and corrective action development for field and operational issues.

  • Support engineering change management, configuration control, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and training to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide on-site oversight of subcontractors, offshore operations, installations, commissioning, and field support activities when required.

  • Travel domestically and internationally, including offshore assignments, to support project execution, testing, commissioning, and customer requirements.

  • Participate in design risk assessments, FMEA reviews, and hazard analyses.

  • Support transition of new products into manufacturing through testing, documentation, training, and readiness activities.

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to the Engineering Team Lead / Manager.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or other related field.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience.

  • Must be able to obtain:

    • Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

    • Petroleum Education Council (PEC) Basic Training

    • Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET)

DESIRED

  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack up analysis, and design for manufacturability

  • Knowledge of ROV and/or subsea equipment design and engineering

  • Knowledge of basic hydraulic components and the ablity to read hydraulic schematics and P&IDs

  • Working knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCAD, MathCAD, and ANSYS

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Good communication and presentation skills

Working Conditions

This position is considered 80% OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night.

  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place.

  • Work surface is stable (flat).

  • May, on occasion be sent out to the equipment yard (local or otherwise) or machine shop to participate in the assembly, FAT, or SIT of projects or other functions as needed.

This position is considered 20% OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.

  • Requires work on or newar moving equipment and vibrating equipment

  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare

  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks

  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fusmes, and gases

  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated
