We focus on practical, deployable technology that brings safety oversight, automation, and coordination to complex maritime environments.\nOur founding team previously built and operated SpaceX’s Autonomous Spaceport Droneships, which are among the most advanced autonomous maritime systems ever deployed. Today, we work with leading U.S. operators to bring that same rigor and systems thinking to the next generation of maritime infrastructure.\nAbout the Role\nWe’re hiring a Naval Architect Intern, for the Summer or Fall term. Summer internships begin in June, and Fall internships begin in September, with a minimum 12 week commitment, and a preferred commitment of 4 to 8 months.\nAs a Naval Architect Intern, you’ll work on initiatives that improve how onboard systems are integrated, deployed, and operated across commercial vessels. You’ll help solve complex, real-world engineering problems spanning mechanical integration, electrical systems, packaging, test, and deployment in demanding marine environments.\nThis role sits at the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and marine engineering. You’ll contribute to the integration of sensors, compute, power systems, cabling, enclosures, and onboard infrastructure that must operate reliably in harsh real-world conditions.\nOur size allows interns to take significant ownership. We give interns autonomy on interdisciplinary projects that move quickly from idea to implementation. Our philosophy is to build and test in days or weeks, not months.\nBecause of this, a portfolio or evidence of hands-on building is required to apply. Show us projects, systems, competition work, research, or fabrication experience that reflect strong engineering fundamentals, execution, and curiosity.\nKey Responsibilities\nContribute to the integration of onboard mechanical and electrical systems deployed on operational vessels\n\nSupport the design of sensor mounts, equipment enclosures, electrical panels, and cable routing layouts\n\nAssist with hardware installation, assembly, and system bring-up\n\nParticipate in vessel integration, commissioning, and testing activities\n\nSupport development and execution of structured test campaigns for deployed systems\n\nHelp identify and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical integration issues in real-world environments\n\nWork closely with software, electrical, and mechanical engineers to improve system reliability and deployment efficiency\n\nContribute to documentation including integration procedures, drawings, and system layouts\n\nYour Background\nPursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field\n\nStrong foundation in mechanical engineering (CAD, simulation, materials selection, etc.)\n\nHands-on prototyping and fabrication experience (clubs, fabrication projects, internships, competition teams, research, or equivalent)\n\nComfortable working close to hardware, tools, and physical systems\n\nAdditional Experience We Value\nExperience with robotics, marine systems, automotive, aerospace, or industrial hardware projects\n\nFamiliarity with electrical systems, harnessing, or cable routing\n\nExperience building or integrating electromechanical systems\n\nInterest in maritime systems, offshore operations, robotics, or heavy industry\n\nWork Environment\nOn-site with the team at our office in El Segundo, CA\n\nComfortable working around industrial equipment and shipboard machinery\n\nCompensation and Benefits\nInterns for this role are paid an hourly rate of $38/hr - $46/hr depending on experience and education level. Internships include up to 10 hours of pre-approved weekly overtime, paid at 1.5x the base hourly rate. Actual earnings will vary depending on internship length and hours worked.\nInternship benefits:\nHousing stipend to help with first month expenses\n\nFully stocked kitchen and catered lunch every day\n\nFlex paid time off and company holidays\n\nOnsite EV charging\n\n401(k) traditional and roth options\n\nAdditional perks that support your health, growth, and well-being\n\nWhy Oceanus, Why Now\nMaritime operations are at the edge of a revolution. New connectivity and compute are finally unlocking remote monitoring, autonomy, and digitization.\nRegulatory, economic, and geopolitical pressure is accelerating technology adoption, and U.S.-aligned infrastructure is more valuable than ever.\nOceanus is building on hard-won operational experience, including work on autonomous maritime systems supporting missions like SpaceX droneships, and have deep operator engagement with strong product-market alignment.\nYou will help form the technical core of a team transforming an industry that quite literally moves the world.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5076,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Marine & Ocean Engineering","Custom Software Development"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-06T05:55:52Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":3,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.111,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":158,"expected_fill_days":22,"reasons":["conf:2","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-13T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":92000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/oceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/oceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-13T20:47:23Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":31852,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-14T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":456133},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=456133"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Foceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Foceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Foceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/oceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Foceanus-marine-technologies-naval-architect-intern"}]}
