No prior professional software development experience is strictly required-we value strong fundamentals, hands-on projects, and a willingness to learn.\nYou’ll implement features, investigate bugs, and validate software in simulations and on physical systems. You don’t need experience across every part of our stack: you’ll start with focused tasks and broaden your skills with guidance from experienced teammates.\n\nWHAT YOU’LL DO\nHelp design, build, and maintain software across embedded, back-end, and front-end components.\nImplement and test features that connect user interfaces, services, and embedded systems.\nRun simulation tests and perform testing on physical systems; document results and help investigate unexpected behavior.\nWrite and maintain unit and integration tests to help ensure software quality and prevent regressions.\nDebug issues across software and hardware boundaries, working with teammates to identify and verify fixes.\nParticipate in code reviews, technical discussions, and delivery activities.\nCommunicate with teammates, customers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and share progress.\nLearn and apply good practices for software design, testing, and maintainability.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\n\nA degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field-or equivalent skills gained through coursework, projects, internships, or other experience.\nFoundational programming knowledge, including familiarity with C++ through coursework, professional or personal projects.\nInterest in embedded systems and how software interacts with hardware; embedded or mission-critical experience is an asset, not a requirement.\nFamiliarity with software testing fundamentals and a willingness to spend a meaningful part of the role validating software through simulations and on-system testing.\nInterest in developing across front-end and back-end technologies, as well as embedded software.\nCuriosity and adaptability: you’re willing to learn unfamiliar tools and technologies, including Rust.\nInitiative and the ability to organize your work, solve problems independently, and collaborate or ask for help when needed.\nClear communication skills.\nEligibility to obtain a Canadian security clearance\n\nNICE TO HAVE\nExperience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or modern web frameworks such as Vue.js or React.\nFamiliarity with unit or integration testing frameworks.\nPersonal, academic, or internship projects involving embedded devices, simulations, hardware interfaces, or web applications.\nExperience using AI-assisted development tools, with an understanding that generated suggestions need to be reviewed, tested, and handled responsibly.\nAwareness of responsive and adaptive UI principles.\nAt Octasic, you will contribute to developing cutting-edge technologies that help Canada and its allies better understand, protect, and secure an ever-changing world.
