About the role:
We are looking for an Energy Markets Specialist to provide senior commercial and market expertise across OEGEN’s renewable portfolio. The role will have particular responsibility for overseeing energy-market activity for a key fund and more broadly building OEGEN’s strategic BESS capability.
Working across Asset Management, Fund Management, Investment and Technical teams, the successful candidate will translate increasingly complex energy markets into clear commercial recommendations. This will include supporting investment decisions, optimising operational assets and developing consistent approaches to BESS revenue strategy, route-to-market, hedging and market risk.
This is a highly commercial and execution-focused role. Time will be split across fund and asset support, strategic market development, complex commercial processes and challenging market assumptions. The successful candidate will be expected to use external partners where appropriate, while retaining clear ownership of the commercial question, analysis and recommendation.
What You'll Do
Lead energy-market coverage for ORIT, including route-to-market performance, revenue strategy, hedging, market risk and key commercial counterparties
Build OEGEN’s BESS commercial strategy across priority markets, including revenue underwriting, route-to-market, optimiser selection and risk management
Provide senior market input into investment decisions, challenging assumptions on power prices, capture prices, ancillary services, balancing, negative pricing, grid constraints and commercial structures
Develop clear standards and guidance for BESS and collocated assets, ensuring lessons from operational assets are reflected in new investment assumptions
Lead or oversee complex commercial processes, including optimiser, route-to-market and strategic PPA tenders; work with external providers to deliver routine contracting efficiently where appropriate
Monitor energy-market, regulatory and policy developments across OEGEN’s priority markets, identifying risks and opportunities for funds and assets
Work closely with Fund Asset Directors and Fund Management teams to develop and implement market strategies that support fund objectives, investor returns and risk appetite
Manage relationships with traders, optimisers, balancing parties, advisers and other key commercial partners, holding them to account for performance
Define and interpret quantitative analysis required for hedging, BESS, merchant exposure and portfolio risk, working with specialist analytical support where appropriate
Communicate complex market issues clearly to Investment Committee, Asset Boards and investors, with practical recommendations and a clear view of risk
What You'll Need
Significant experience in European power markets, renewable energy commercialisation, trading, optimisation or energy-market advisory
Strong practical experience of BESS commercial strategy, including revenue modelling, route-to-market arrangements, ancillary services, dispatch considerations and optimiser performance
Experience working for, or advising, a renewable IPP, fund manager, utility, trading house, optimiser or energy-market consultancy
Excellent commercial judgement, with a track record of challenging and improving market assumptions, commercial structures or route-to-market strategies
Strong understanding of renewable revenue drivers, including PPAs, merchant exposure, hedging, balancing, capture price, negative pricing, ancillary services and grid constraints
High financial and numerical acumen, with the ability to build, review and challenge complex revenue models and investment assumptions
Experience leading complex commercial processes and managing external counterparties, including PPA, route-to-market, optimiser or trading arrangements
Ability to work credibly with investment, technical, fund-management and asset-management teams, translating market complexity into clear decisions
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present commercial recommendations to senior management, Investment Committee and investors
