SDA Radar Systems Sustainment Engineer

Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting new opportunity providing Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) supporting the US Space Force mission to defend National Security Interests in Space as a Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Radar Systems Sustainment Engineer supporting the Eglin Radar in the Ground-based Sensors Branch of Combat Forces Command’s Integrated Mission Delta 2, 2nd Sustainment Squadron (CFC IMD 2/2STS).

CFC IMD2/2STS integrates SDA operations with current SDA programs of record, networks, and Command and Control (C2) data exploitation and dissemination systems and is responsible for sustainment of existing ground-based optical and radar sensor systems including Eglin Radar, Space Fence, C-Band Radar, Australia, the Ground-Based Electro Optical Deep Space Surveillance (GEODSS) system, and the Space Surveillance Telescope (SST).

Odyssey Systems provides A&AS support to the Government in five areas: Product Support, Sustainment Engineering & Sustainment Management, Technical Order Management, Technical User Interface, and System Design, Engineering, and Integration. These tasks are executed laterally with USSF SSC/SZB depot and development contractors and with SDA stakeholders.

This is a full-time position at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs, CO with the potential for 1-2 days of tele-work per week at the discretion of the government.

Responsibilities

An A&AS contractor is a knowledgeable and trusted advisor to the Government Program Office. As an SDA Radar Systems Sustainment Engineer, you will perform engineering analysis, planning, interface design, and provide engineering support for programs in IMD 2/2STS. The ideal candidate will be an engineer who can rapidly become educated on a bespoke issue on unique systems, evaluate the cost/benefit of many potential technical solutions, and make recommendations to the government for how to proceed. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Draft, review, and provide input during the development of system modification requirements and design documentation to include technical requirements; capability description and production documents; interface control; system specifications and system, test and acceptance documentation
• Provide proposal analysis support services that compare and quantify proposed system modifications, components, and approaches for technical feasibility, compatibility, and cost-effectiveness
• Provide technical recommendation support services, including reviews, studies, audits, evaluations and analyses, scientific and procedural guidance, documentation, technical analysis, and support of associated engineering IPTs
• Support development of system integration plans, procedures, and scenarios
• Participate in trade studies to support the selection of preferred design solutions, commercial hardware or software components, and preferred course of action alternatives in project development/system delivery
• Develop, plan, and implement, strategies; develop analysis; analyze and evaluate test results for complex system and subsystem test and evaluation activities; perform validation of systems, including the development of criteria and procedures
• Support the development of system test plans in accordance with project technical, schedule, and cost constraints, support site and system test activities with contractor and Program Office personnel
• Coordinate and lead resolution of system issues and deficiencies with prime contractors, depot contractors and other support contractors; monitor contractor performance during development, integration, test, and fielding events
• Identify and track sustainment risks in support of Government activities; develop and execute technology insertion and risk reduction strategies, studies, and recommendations to mitigate identified risk conditions
• Provide relevant input to acquisition planning activities, upgrades and modifications, and studies and interface with stakeholders, contractor personnel, and product integrators
• Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon government direction
• Other duties as required/requested by the Government and within the scope of the S3 contract

Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Clearance: DoD Secret

Education: Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, Engineering Management, Information Technology, or a technical space related discipline OR, 8 years of experience in radar systems engineering

Years of Experience: 8 years of relevant experience with 4 years in a Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, or technical space analysis role in a Program Office, operational technical staff, or Sustainment organization supporting similar Department of Defense or Intelligence Community Space Surveillance systems OR,

• Master’s degree in systems engineering, Engineering Management, Electrical Engineering (RF), or a related discipline with 4 years of relevant experience in a Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, or technical space analysis role in a Program Office, operational technical staff, or Sustainment organization supporting similar Department of Defense or Intelligence Community Space Surveillance systems

Other Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, FFRDCs, and contractors, working in a highly dynamic environment
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment - able to take ownership of problems and see through to completion
• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with internal and external clients
• Operational understanding of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), e.g. Cameo

Preferred Qualifications:

Clearance: Active DoD TS/SCI clearance, amenable to polygraph

Education/Experience: Master’s Degree and/or 12 years of experience in RF engineering, signal processing, agile software development, space systems operations and analysis, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems test and evaluation

Certifications: PMP Certification; DAU DAWIA, or equivalent Acquisition Program Management, Systems Engineering, or Test Level II or III training

Experience:

• Prior work as an A&AS contractor in a DoD, MDA, or IC Acquisition organization
• Prior work in program management or assisting program management desired
• Prior work with RF or optical systems including Radars and/or RF communications
• Prior work in developing signal processing systems
• Prior work with DoD software and hardware Agile, waterfall, and hybrid development
• Prior work in testing RF, optical or space systems
• Prior work with SDA sensors, command and control systems, and networks
• Prior work with Space Operations

Additional Information:

• Location: 2424 Garden of the Gods Road with occasional work at Peterson SFB or contractor locations in Colorado Springs, CO
• Travel: Up to 30% to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon Government direction
• Hybrid: Onsite with an opportunity to telework 1 to 2 days per week at the discretion of the Government
