In this role you will report to the Engineering & Reliability Manager and work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, Production Planning, and EHS. The Process & Manufacturing Engineer supports manufacturing processes through process optimization, capital project execution, equipment implementation, and technical problem solving. This hybrid role combines process engineering, manufacturing engineering, project engineering, and materials processing, leading process improvement initiatives and providing technical expertise for ceramic processing, spray drying, powder manufacturing, cladding, and sintering technologies. A key responsibility of this position is leading the selection, specification, installation, commissioning, and validation of a new sintering system at the Westbury facility - the first installation of its kind at the site - in close coordination with global engineering teams, equipment suppliers, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and EHS.\nYour Responsibilities:\nMonitor and improve manufacturing processes to increase safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability; analyze production data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.\nDevelop process parameters and operating windows for powder manufacturing processes, and support troubleshooting related to spray drying, sintering, powder processing, blending, and thermal spray materials.\nSupport day-to-day manufacturing operations by providing technical guidance to production personnel, and collaborate with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and process stability.\nLead assigned CAPEX projects from concept through commissioning, including scopes, equipment specifications, budgets, and schedules; coordinate equipment suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders through installation, SAT/FAT activities, and process qualification.\nLead the technical evaluation and selection of a new sintering system for the Westbury facility, including layout development, utility requirements, installation planning, and commissioning, working with equipment manufacturers to establish operating parameters and acceptance criteria.\nDevelop production procedures, maintenance plans, and operator training materials for new equipment, and support process validation and transition to routine manufacturing.\nProvide technical support for ceramic processing, spray drying, cladding materials, powder manufacturing, and related manufacturing technologies; collaborate with Quality to investigate process deviations and customer quality concerns.\nSupport engineering documentation including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and work instructions; perform root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.\nParticipate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, driving improvements in OEE, yield, throughput, and process capability.\nCreate and maintain standard operating procedures and process documentation across all supported manufacturing lines.\nYour Profile:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.\nTypically 5-8 years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, including exposure to capital equipment projects.\nWorking knowledge of powder processing, ceramics, spray drying, sintering, cladding, or thermal spray materials preferred.\nFamiliarity with project management principles and equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification.\nExperience developing manufacturing procedures and process documentation; ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.\nWorking knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drafting software preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SAP, and Visio is preferred.\nStrong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, with familiarity in statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies.\nExperience working with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and external vendors.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, balancing daily support with long-term project work.\nSound judgment in evaluating equipment capability and recommending process improvements.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills for project updates, documentation, and cross-functional reporting.\nEffective problem-solving and decision-making under time pressure.\nCommitment to safety and quality standards.\nWe offer:\nAside from a dynamic global culture and leading market position, we are proud to offer our employees development opportunities, competitive salary and a robust benefit program ALL available on first day of employment! Some positions within Oerlikon may also offer eligibility to participate in a discretionary incentive program. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for the role will be based on a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, internal equity, job location, work experience, education, training, certifications, licenses, etc. Therefore, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each individual, it is likely that not all applicants will be hired at the highest end of the listed compensation range.
