Design and develop advanced PFSA membranes by tailoring polymer\narchitecture and membrane thickness through solution casting and\ncoating processes to enhance PEM water electrolyzer performance and\ndurability.\n2. Develop advanced structure and composite membranes to balance\nconductivity, mechanical strength and gas crossover.\n3. Optimize ionomer dispersions: solvent systems, equivalent weight (EW),\nsolids content, rheology and annealing conditions.\n4. Measure proton conductivity (in-plane and through-plane), IEC, water\nuptake, swelling, tensile and creep properties.\n5. Develop and implement component-level test methodologies to evaluate\nand characterize membrane properties, including mechanical, chemical,\nthermal, and electrochemical performance.\n6. Run accelerated stress tests: Fenton/OCV chemical degradation, fluoride\nrelease rate, mechanical cycling and pressure-differential tests.\n7. Use characterization techniques like FTIR, NMR, TGA, DSC, DMA,\nSAXS/WAXS, SEM/EDX and XPS to relate structure to performance.\n8. Assess H₂/O₂ crossover and membrane behavior in single-cell and short-\nstack electrolyzer tests with the MEA level\n9. Transfer lab processes to pilot roll-to-roll casting/coating with process\nengineering; define specs and QC methods.\n10. Analyze the post operated MEA to identify the failure modes (Thinning,\nPinholes and chemical attack etc.)\n11. Qualify advanced membrane technologies through rigorous testing,\nreliability assessment, and performance verification under application-\nrelevant operating conditions.\n12. Develop and implement safe work practices for PFSA ionomer handling\nand testing.\n13. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate membrane\nperformance requirements into robust qualification plans and acceptance\ncriteria.\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :\n1. Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering/Polymer Chemistry/Polymer Engineering or\na related field with 1+ years of industry experience or M.Sc./M.Tech\n(Polymer chemistry/Polymer science and technology) with 3+ years of\nindustry experience\n2. Experience with electrochemical methods: EIS, polarization curves,\nconductivity cells, gas crossover measurement.\n3. Working knowledge of PFSA ionomer chemistry: EW, side-chain structure,\nphase-separated morphology, and degradation mechanisms is required.\n4. Background in membrane durability under high differential pressure, high\ncurrent density or dynamic operation is essential.\n5. Exposure to hydrocarbons or PFAS-free ionomer alternatives is desired\n6.
