Your Opportunity
In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 - Success Centre Peer Conversation Corner Facilitators, under the direct supervision of the Success Centre Coordinator or designated supervisor, facilitate informal, student-centered conversation groups that provide opportunities for participants to practice spoken English, build confidence in communication skills, and develop social connections in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Through structured activities, guided discussions, and peer engagement, Conversation Corner Facilitators create spaces where students can connect with one another, develop intercultural awareness, increase confidence in communicating in English, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Okanagan College community. Facilitators encourage participation, support positive group dynamics, and help participants engage with campus resources and opportunities.
Functions and Duties
- Facilitates small group sessions, ensuring participants feel comfortable, heard, and included.
- Leads group discussions and activities that encourage social connection and open dialogue.
- Refer participants to appropriate college services and resources when additional support is required.
- Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with co-facilitators.
- Collaborates with co-facilitator to plan and prepare session activities and materials
- Assists in setup and cleanup of program spaces as needed.
- Collects attendance data and posts resources on internal College systems.
- Performs administrative tasks related to the program, including maintaining activity resources and developing supplemental materials.
- Promotes the program for example visiting classes, creating marketing materials, attending student events.
- Communicates with supervisors on a regular basis.
- Completes the required training.
- Supports and adheres to all OC policies and guidelines and creates and maintains community agreements that respect confidentiality of participants.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
The student will assist the supervisor by performing the following duties:
Education and Experience
Enrolled in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College.
Prior work, volunteer, tutoring, mentoring, or leadership experience is considered an asset.
Position Specific Education and Experience:
Experience learning or speaking more than one language is considered an asset.
Experience facilitating groups, mentoring peers, or participating in intercultural activities is considered an asset.
