Job Description

Mthunzi Funeral Services Limited, a member of the Old Mutual Group, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Driver/Undertaker (Fixed-term), tenable in Lilongwe and Blantyre.

The successful candidates will be engaged on a fixed-term contract for a period of six (6) months, with the possibility of renewal subject to business requirements and individual performance.

Applicants are required to clearly indicate their preferred duty station (Lilongwe or Blantyre) in their application letter.

The successful candidates will report directly to the Client Service Consultant and will be responsible for the dignified transportation of the deceased, supporting funeral operations, and delivering professional client service in line with the organisation's standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct funeral services professionally, compassionately, and in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
  • Safely transport the deceased from places of death to the funeral parlour and from the parlour to designated place of burial.
  • Ensure the respectful handling and movement of the deceased at all times.
  • Operate funeral, burial, and cemetery equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain cemetery and funeral equipment, and promptly report any faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct chapel services and provide support during funeral ceremonies as assigned.
  • Wash, dress, and assist in the preparation and embalming of the deceased in accordance with company procedures and health and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle mileage records and complete all required trip documentation.
  • Record and reconcile fuel transactions in the vehicle mileage logbook.
  • Ensure funeral vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and presentable at all times.
  • Assist with the setting up and dismantling of funeral infrastructure, including tents, chairs, and related equipment.
  • Comply with all company driving policies, road traffic regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in standby and night-duty assignments as scheduled.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to bereaved families and other stakeholders during funeral arrangements and services.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management from time to time.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • An MSCE
  • Drivers` license.
  • Defensive Driving Certificate.
  • Any relevant medical Certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Ability to carry out assigned route on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
