Job Description

Join Olsson's Industrial team as a Process Engineer and help deliver innovative solutions for clients across the agricultural processing, ethanol, food and beverage, renewable fuels, manufacturing, chemical, and industrial markets.

As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in planning, designing, and optimizing industrial processes and systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for both greenfield and brownfield projects. This position offers opportunities to work directly with clients, contribute to technically challenging projects, and support the continued growth of Olsson's Industrial practice.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process design and control narratives, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform process engineering calculations, including mass balances, energy balances, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Design and evaluate industrial process systems including pumping, piping, heat transfer, utility systems, chemical feed systems, and material handling processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, studies, cost estimates, and engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and control system engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Support facility planning, process optimization, debottlenecking, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in process hazard reviews, safety evaluations, and risk assessments.
  • Assist with project planning, scope development, scheduling, budget management, and resource coordination.
  • Conduct field investigations, facility assessments, startup support, and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to understand operational goals and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and contractor deliverables for technical compliance.
  • Support business development efforts through proposals, client meetings, and technical presentations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute technical knowledge sharing across the organization.

Qualifications

You bring to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of industrial process engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with industrial process design, equipment selection, and process optimization.
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing operations, process safety principles, applicable industry standards, and hygienic design principles.
  • Comprehension of core chemical engineering principles, including transport phenomena and unit operations, thermodynamics and equations of state, mass transfer, chemical kinetics, and continuous and batch reactor design.
  • Practice in preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Familiarity with process simulation and engineering software.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort managing multiple project deadlines and uncertainties in design progression.
  • Ability to travel periodically to client facilities throughout the United States.

Experience in one or more of the following industries is highly desired:

  • Oil & gas pipeline design
  • Consumer products manufacturing
