Role Impact
The primary objective of the Business Development Manager is the growth of the sales volumes currently being achieved in Australia. This is to be achieved through interfacing with various potential and existing clients and identifying and pursuing key growth areas. A key measure of success will be the achievement of sales volume growth within BME Australia-Asia.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders at mining sites and corporate offices.
- Conduct regular site visits to understand operational environments and client pain points.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations, strategic discussions, and long-term planning.
Strategic Account Planning
- Develop detailed account plans outlining goals, revenue targets, risks, and growth opportunities.
- Align solutions with the client's production cycles, shutdown schedules, and project timelines.
- Forecast demand based on mining production, maintenance schedules, and commodity cycles.
Contract & Tender Management
- Manage contract negotiations, renewals, and pricing discussions.
- Prepare and submit tender responses-technical, commercial, and compliance sections.
- Ensure contract performance KPIs (OTIF, safety, delivery, service levels) are met.
Sales & Revenue Growth
- Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities (equipment, consumables, technology, services).
- Track and report on revenue, margin, and pipeline performance for each key mining account.
- Support product trials, demos, and ROI cases targeted at mining operations.
Operational Coordination
- Work closely with internal teams (logistics, operations, technical services, HR, safety, finance).
- Coordinate delivery schedules that align with mine production and shutdowns.
- Ensure compliance with mining safety standards and site-specific access requirements.
Technical & Product Support
- Provide clients with product knowledge, performance data, and technical insights.
- Work with technical specialists to resolve issues, conduct root-cause analysis, or improve performance.
- Support commissioning, installation, or maintenance of equipment or solutions on site.
Risk & Compliance Management
- Monitor contract risks, safety requirements, and commercial exposures.
- Ensure all activities comply with mining regulations, site policies, and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation, approvals, and audit trails.
Stakeholder Reporting & Insights
- Prepare account performance reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
- Provide insights on market trends, commodity outlooks, competitor movements, and client strategies.
- Present quarterly/annual business reviews to mining clients.
Customer Experience & Value Delivery
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, or enhance operational efficiency for the client.
- Gather client feedback to implement service improvements.
- Measure customer satisfaction and deliver on service-level promises.
Project & Solution Delivery
- Oversee delivery of major projects, technology implementations, or long-term service contracts.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure on-time and in-scope delivery.
- Track project milestones, budgets, and outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Business or equivalent experience
- Bachelor of Mining Engineering or equivalent experience
Certifications
- Shot Firers Ticket (Desirable)
Experience
- Demonstrated experience working within blasting operational roles.
- 7 -10 years of working experience in account management/business development in Australian mining, explosives and heavy industries.
- Strategic account management experience in mining/explosives services industry.
- Proven track record of successful customer/sales engagements/relationships within the mining industry
Advantageous
- Established relationships within quarry industry and commercial understanding of segment.

- Excellent interpersonal/customer relationship skills required, with the ability to liaise diplomatically and maintain solid business relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to identify viable business opportunities, and to develop fit-for-purpose business models and strategies.

- Ability to analyse and ascertain a competitor's position in the market, and to develop effective commodities/mining operations/competitive/business development strategies.

- Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to negotiate and construct deals that are profitable to BME.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint).
Knowledge

- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
- Knowledge of fit-for-purpose business models and/or modes of entry for sustainable business.
- Knowledge of typical mining operations and/or explosives products, services, and regulatory legislation.
- Good knowledge base on commodities and competitors within the mining/explosives services industry.
- Knowledge of project management.
