The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.\nReceives and processes samples to determine suitability\nPrepares and maintains laboratory records and blood shipping forms\nIssues blood and blood components\nInspects blood units returned from hospitals and determines suitability\nMaintains component inventory to include recall and inventory lookback\nCentrifuges whole blood to produce various components\nModifies blood components\nPerforms unregulated laboratory testing such as pH and bacterial culturing\nPerforms quality control as directed\nParticipates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors and takes effective and preventive corrective actions when indicated\nCleans and maintains laboratory equipment, supplies and laboratory\nUtilizes computer system to obtain necessary data.\nQualifications\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.\nEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent. Prior blood bank or laboratory experience preferred.\nCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:\nNone\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\nAbility to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency or other catastrophic event\nAbility to organize work for timely completion\nAbility to follow complex oral and written instructions \nAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writing\nAbility to read, write and speak English effectively\nAbility to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work\nBasic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications\nSkill in operating office equipment.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
