Ensures that testing is completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies and procedures. Has responsibility for oversight of staff. Performs the essential functions of the Medical Technologist.\nPrimary shift will be afternoon hours starting at 2:00 pm through 10:30 pm. Flexibility is expected. May include occasional weekends and holidays.\nResponsibilities\nThe list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the duties and responsibilities performed within this classification. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.\nSupervises the employees of assigned area ensuring efficiency of workflow and continuity of services\nEnsures completion of employee departmental orientation, competency testing, compliance training and other mandatory instructions\nEnsures efficiency and productivity by monitoring the production status and directing the workflow and people resources to meet deadlines and standards \nProvides oversight and supervision of Lab Assistants, Lab Technicians, Medical Technologists and Med Tech Leads\nParticipates in validations, projects and monitoring key performance indicators\nProvides leadership and technical expertise for the department helping to resolve issues associated with protocol, equipment, interpretation of test results and system interfaces\nEnsures that all QC/QA procedures, maintenance schedules, instrument calibration and function checks and other regulatory inspection agency requirements are followed \nParticipates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors and takes effective and preventive corrective actions when indicated\nPerforms Medical Technologist bench work as needed\nParticipates in an on-call rotation\nQualifications\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.\nEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor's degree in medical technology, biological science or related field from an accredited college or university. Three (3) or more years in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood banking environment including one (1) or more years’ experience in supervision and management experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.\nCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:\nValid and current Florida Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking, supervisor license preferred. In certain specialty laboratories performing HLA, molecular testing or patient testing, other Florida licenses may be required.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\nKnowledge of and ability to read technical procedures and governmental regulations\nAbility to organize work for timely completion \nAbility to follow complex oral and written instructions \nAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writing \nAbility to read, write and speak English effectively \nAbility to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work\nSkill in operating office equipment \nBasic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. \nAbility to travel up to 10% of the time \nAbility to commute with personal transportation\nAbility to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency or other catastrophic event.\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:\nThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
