A Day in the Life
As an Associate Project Manager at Onterris, you'll ensure the effective and expeditious mobilization of Toxicological Emergency Response Project (TERP) personnel and equipment to assigned complex emergency response projects through planning, directing, and implementation, and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. You must have experience responding to wide range of environmental issues, including those related to industrial hygiene and environmental sampling. With minimal direction, you will maintain good working relationships with all levels of personnel and will quickly identify questions and/or concerns related to environmental, health, and safety issues. As an Associate Project Manager, you'll need to rely on your experience, expertise, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A high level of creativity is important in developing unique solutions as are good decision-making skills, interfacing with the client and communicating with regulatory agencies. Additionally, this position will require you to coordinate with vendors for sample analysis and invoicing their services on projects, i.e. laboratory/sample analysis project costs. In this position, as in all Emergency Response positions, you will be part of a 24/7 on call rotation for emergency responses and will be subject to frequent, extended travel. This position reports to a Project Manager. Administrative tasks will include leading response readiness initiatives and Project Ownership in Workday. This duty will require you to assign responding personnel to job tasks in workday, subsequently review and approve project related time and expenses.; invoicing in a responsible manner and finalizing project summary reports in a timely, accurate fashion.
The compensation range for this role is $55,000 - $62,000 commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
To thrive in this role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:
- Ensure effective mobilization of TERP personnel and equipment to emergency response projects;
- Develop strategies and implement scientific sampling methods for TERP responses and projects;
- Serve as the primary company representative to on-site client and agency representatives;
- Provide quality project status reports, effective data evaluations, daily cost estimates to the client contact;
- Prepare standardized and site-specific air and environmental sampling work plans, health and safety plans, and other documents, as required;
- Prepare written reports summarizing scientific data collected on TERP projects;
- Perform industrial hygiene activities, including, but not necessarily limited to, conducting air sampling, noise surveys, reviewing product SDS;
- Verify the readiness for response by ensuring the availability and adequacy of TERP equipment, sampling media, and ER supplies for the region;
- Help mentor, coach, and train response teams to strengthen capabilities and competencies to meet client expectations;
- Conducting an initial site assessment of the exclusion zone prior to responding scientists making entry;
- Utilizing appropriate PPE and ensuring responding staff are capable of utilizing appropriate PPE for their assigned job task;
- Coordinate with assigned Data Manager to develop effective databases for environmental and occupational exposure data: analyze data, identify trends, and ensure corrective actions are taken;
- Develop, deploy, and maintain environmental tools/systems to simplify and streamline meeting environmental program requirements;
- Provide “hands-on” support to help site response teams meet the clients' requirements and expectations;
- Act as a member of an emergency response team, traveling with limited notice to potentially remote areas, to conduct air, water, and/or soil sampling, meteorological monitoring, and information collection;
- Maintain compliance with the company’s environmental, health, and safety policies and all applicable client, state, federal, and local environmental rules, policies, and regulations; and,
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology, or Environmental Health & Safety (or other related disciplines). TERP experience may substitute this preference based on TERP Director discretion.
- More than one year of field experience is required.
- Master’s degree (preferred) in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology, Environmental Health & Safety (or other related disciplines) plus up to two years of related field experience; and,
- Advanced computer skills in a Windows-based platform (required).
- Ability to work within a matrix reporting structure, recognizing value and diversity of the organization; and,
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions and communicate at a professional level in the English language

Work Environment and Physical Requirements (Optional to Include)
The physical and environmental requirements below reflect what’s typically needed to perform the essential functions of this role safely and effectively. - Ability to work shifts of up to 24 hours in duration (rarely)
- Dress out in physically demanding personal protective equipment (PPE) for site entry at HAZWOPER sites as required under 29CFR 1910.120
- Wear half-face and full-face air purifying respirator (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirator with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134
- Wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protection equipment
- Works in an office environment when not deployed on an emergency response;
- Works outdoors and may be exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions, including sunlit, rainy, and windy conditions;
- May occasionally work shifts up to 24 hours in duration;
- Encounter environments presenting physical hazards of uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions, rapidly moving transportation and remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with the wear of personal protective equipment;
- May work at altitudes greater than 5,000 feet above sea level;
- May work on land, sea or air;
- May work in a setting with potential physical and chemical hazards; and
- Frequent, extended travel.
