Onto Innovation strives to optimize customers’ critical path of progress by making them smarter, faster and more efficient.\nJob Summary & Responsibilities\nThis internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-visibility program while gaining hands-on experience with mechanical systems, substrate handling components, and system-level troubleshooting used in advanced manufacturing equipment.\nThe Mechanical Systems Engineer Intern will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to support system design, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nAssist in troubleshooting electromechanical systems under the guidance of senior engineers, identifying root causes and supporting corrective actions.\n\nHelp reduce production labor, cycle time, and material cost through mechanical design improvements and process optimization.\n\nRead, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system-level documentation, recommending and implementing updates as needed.\n\nUse diagnostic and measurement tools (e.g., calipers, torque tools, sensors, multimeters, oscilloscopes) to analyze mechanical and mechatronic system performance.\n\nCollaborate with manufacturing, electrical, and systems engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and utilization.\n\nReview End-of-Life (EOL) components and support redesign efforts using currently available mechanical or electromechanical components.\n\nAssist in improving system documentation, design standards, and test procedures.\n\nDocument test results, troubleshooting steps, design changes, and recommendations to support future improvements and product scalability.\n\nQualifications\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
