Onto Innovation strives to optimize customers’ critical path of progress by making them smarter, faster and more efficient.\nJob Summary & Responsibilities\nWe are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to join our team in leading and developing advanced hardware and tooling solutions for next-generation metrology instruments. This role involves the full product lifecycle-from concept development and detailed design to prototyping, testing, and final release. You will work independently or lead small teams, depending on project scope.\nDefine control architecture: components (motors, drives, controllers), and interfaces for motion systems.\nExperience with Motion control simulation\nDesign optical mounts, sub-micron precision adjustment mechanisms, and positioning systems.\nAbility to architect mechatronic systems, select motors, sensors, drive components, etc. based on satisfying system requirements.\nStrong control-theory foundation (feedback design, filtering, system dynamics)\nSolve real-world precision issues (vibration, resonance, etc.)\nProficient in motion control, including servo tuning, stage control, and automation mapping.\nRecognize and design simple and elegant structures.\nJustify and quantify performance-based metrics that led to their design decisions\nFinalize the design through product release for current and future metrology instruments.\nDemonstrated ability to create clear reports and documentation.\nDemonstrated technical depth in concept design of complex mechanical systems.\nWorking with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams, as well as Operations and Manufacturing.\nQualifications\n7+ years’ experience working as a Controls, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineer.\nControls knowledge. (linear system control etc)\nMasters degree or higher in science or engineering preferred.\n5+ years' experience in a leadership role preferred.\nProficient in motion control, including servo tuning, stage control, and automation mapping.\nDeep understanding of vibration analysis, modal analysis, and VC (Vibration Criteria) standards.\nExperience with isolation systems and designing for micron- and nanometer-level accuracy.\nFamiliarity with system architecture, design requirements, and technical specifications for high-performance systems.\nExperience implementing motion control systems.\nExperience with microcontrollers, Arduino, Pi Proficient with accelerometers and spectrum analyzer to quantify and diagnose a vibration.\nSkilled with contact and non-contact measurement types, indicators, cap gages, interferometer, to measure mechanical errors and drifts.\nExperience designing mechanical systems for very clean environments, semiconductor, biotech, food systems are all applicable.\nSkill using mathematical modeling software.\nStrong background in precision mechanics, mechatronics, and electromechanical system design.\nMust be able to travel internationally to customer sites at least 20% of the time, with additional travel as business needs require.\nWhy Join Onto Innovation?\nAt Onto Innovation, we believe your work should matter-and so should your well-being.
