This position supervises and supports nursing staff, promotes safe, timely, recovery-oriented care for individuals experiencing behavioral health and/or substance use crises, and helps ensure that nursing practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and agency policies. The Nursing Supervisor coordinates staffing and clinical workflows, supports staff competency and performance, monitors documentation and medication-related practices, and oversees the availability of required medical supplies and equipment.\n\nPRIMARY FUNCTIONS:\nProvides day-to-day supervision, coaching, and clinical guidance to Registered Nurses assigned to Behavioral Health Urgent Care sites; promotes accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and consistent nursing practice.\nParticipates in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training nursing staff; establishes clear expectations and supports staff integration into the urgent care team.\nDevelops and coordinates nursing schedules and site coverage, responds to callouts and vacancies, and adjusts staffing plans to support safe operations and continuity of care.\nMonitors nursing performance through observation, review of documentation, feedback, and follow-up; conducts performance evaluations and addresses performance concerns in collaboration with the Behavioral Health Assistant Nursing Director and Human Resources, as appropriate.\nEnsures nursing staff maintain current licensure, required certifications, mandatory training, and demonstrated competency; tracks expiration dates and follows up promptly on compliance gaps.\nPromotes safe, timely, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented nursing care for individuals presenting with behavioral health and/or substance use needs, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities when served.\nProvides clinical support and nursing care within the scope of RN licensure and agency protocols, including assessment and monitoring of clients, medication administration as authorized, recognition of changes in condition, and timely communication with psychiatric providers and other members of the care team.\nSupports staff in responding to behavioral health crises, medical emergencies, and changes in client condition; reinforces escalation procedures, emergency response protocols, and coordination with appropriate clinical and emergency services.\nOverseas the accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and confidentiality of nursing documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR); identifies documentation trends or deficiencies and provides coaching and corrective follow-up.\nMonitors compliance with medication management procedures, including safe storage, handling, administration, documentation, and reporting of medication errors or concerns, consistent with applicable requirements and agency policy.\nMaintains oversight of medical supplies, medications, and clinical equipment; monitors inventory levels, storage conditions, and expiration dates, and coordinates timely replenishment to support safe and uninterrupted services.\nHelps implement and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and clinical workflows; communicates updates to staff and reinforces consistent application across sites.\nParticipates in quality assurance, incident review, audits, and continuous-improvement activities; identifies risks, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve client safety, service quality, and operational efficiency.\nCoordinates with urgent care leadership, psychiatric providers, other clinical disciplines, and relevant agency departments to resolve operational issues, improve care coordination, and support consistent service delivery across sites.\nProvides direct nursing coverage when needed to address staffing shortages or urgent operational needs, while balancing supervisory responsibilities and ensuring that coverage is consistent with applicable requirements.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned.\n\nADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:\nServes as a member of the Medication Policy Committee and contributes nursing operations and clinical-practice perspectives to policy review and improvement.\nSupports agency initiatives related to client safety, regulatory readiness, staff development, quality improvement, and the delivery of person-centered, recovery-oriented services.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:\nDemonstrated leadership, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to guide nursing staff in a fast-paced behavioral health urgent care environment.\nStrong communication, coaching, conflict-resolution, organization, and decision-making skills; able to set expectations, provide constructive feedback, and address concerns professionally.\nCommitment to person-centered care, mental health and substance use recovery, dignity, inclusion, and customer service excellence; maintains a warm, respectful, and engaging presence.\nAbility to prioritize competing clinical and operational needs, respond calmly during crises, and escalate issues appropriately.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to accurate clinical documentation, medication safety, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable standards and agency policies.\nComputer proficiency and experience using electronic medical records; ability to review documentation and monitor compliance using electronic systems.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with nurses, psychiatric providers, interdisciplinary colleagues, clients, families/supports when appropriate, and agency leadership.\nBilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.\n\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:\nCurrent valid New York State license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN), in good standing.\nA minimum of three years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, addiction medicine, crisis services, or a related clinical setting.\nPrior supervisory, charge nurse, team-lead, or other demonstrated leadership experience preferred; experience coaching staff and coordinating schedules is an advantage.\nExperience working with diverse populations and responding to behavioral health crises; experience serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a plus.\nWorking knowledge of medication administration and safety, clinical documentation, incident reporting, infection prevention, and applicable nursing standards and regulations.\n\nPHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:\nThese physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to perform the job's essential functions successfully.
