CASAC interns apply their knowledge of substance use disorders and that of co-occurring disorders. You will evaluate and monitor clients, screen for signs and symptoms of substance use disorders, provide support during recovery, and implement treatment plans, offer emotional support. The CASAC interns adhere to the NYS OASAS Scope of Practice Rules and are involved in the 12 Core Functions of an Addiction Counselor when working with agency clients and the community. \nThis position requires that applicants be enrolled in an education and training program that will grant them credit hours for their internship. Applicants must also be CASAC(T) students.\nTo be considered for an internship placement with Access, please submit a cover letter with your application that includes the school/education and training program you are attending, details on your internship requirements, and the program(s) of interest to you.\nPRIMARY FUNCTIONS:\nPerforms substance use assessments, collaborates with case managers to identify mutually agreed upon long and short-term substance use related goals and develop a comprehensive service plan.\nProvides substance use counseling and support services to clients.\nFacilitates weekly substance use groups including harm reduction and relapse prevention.\nPerforms crisis intervention, assessment, advocacy, referral, and case planning.\nParticipates in weekly supervision with his/her supervisor, teem meetings and case reviews.\n\nADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:\nPatriciate in weekly supervision.\nAdditional assignments may be determined at a future date.\n\nQUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:\nDemonstrates cultural sensitivity and competency at all times. \nExcellent communication skills.\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:\nCurrent CASAC(T) student.\nPHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:\n\nThese physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to perform the job's essential functions successfully.
