Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.\nWe’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.\nOur business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.\nWe operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.\nOur impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.\nABOUT ACCESS & STEWARDSHIP AT onX\nAccess and Stewardship (A&S) is central to onX's mission and long-term relevance in the outdoor industry. Our products help people understand access, navigate land boundaries, and make confident decisions outside. But the future of outdoor recreation is shaped not only by technology, but by the stewardship of the places people use and the policies that determine how lands are accessed, managed, and understood.\nonX's A&S program brings these pieces together through charitable giving, stewardship projects, customer education, geospatial storytelling, access-informed tools, and a growing advocacy and government relations practice on issues that affect access, stewardship, and federal geospatial data. This work strengthens customer trust, reinforces onX's role as a credible voice in the outdoor space, and connects our products and expertise to real-world outcomes for public lands and outdoor communities.\nABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY\nonX is seeking an experienced Access & Stewardship Program Director to run and grow the company's A&S program. This person defines program priorities, drives annual planning, and oversees grants, stewardship initiatives, customer education, access-related geospatial and product integration projects, partnerships, and policy-informed programs.\nThe Program Director is both a strategist and a hands-on operator. The core of the job is program strategy, prioritization, and delivery: translating A&S priorities into clear plans and measurable initiatives that align with onX's business and brand priorities. This person connects policy context, stewardship priorities, partnerships, education, and tools into a cohesive program rather than a set of disconnected efforts.\nA defining part of this role is guiding how onX expands its political exposure: deliberately, in nonpartisan and credibility-building ways, and with clear-eyed judgment about risk. This person will surface trade-offs and risks early and provide clear recommendations so senior leadership can make deliberate, informed decisions.\nSuccess looks like a focused and credible program, sound partner and investment choices, measurable progress, and executive-ready reporting on impact, trade-offs, and where to invest next. This role reports to the Director of Brand Programs. \nWHAT YOU'LL DO Essential Job Duties & Functions\nSet Strategy & Own the ProgramSet strategic direction for onX's A&S program, translating broad goals into sequenced initiatives and making deliberate calls about where to focus and invest.\nOwn the annual A&S Plan, turning strategy into objectives, major initiatives, and investment focus across the portfolio.\nBring policy context, public lands realities, and stewardship priorities into program strategy in partnership with onX's policy consultant, internal experts, and leadership.\nDrive adoption of A&S priorities across the vertical businesses, building alignment across teams with different incentives, perspectives, and timelines.\nDirect customer education and engagement and set budget, investment direction, and final approval for the Adventure Forever Grant Program.\nCoach and develop A&S teammates while staying directly involved in the day-to-day work of the program.\n\nDirect Government Affairs & PartnershipsOwn and direct onX's government relations and policy consultant relationship, setting priorities and turning federal developments into clear decisions and actions.\nShape onX's policy positions with internal experts and leadership, keeping them specific, defensible, and nonpartisan.\nIdentify and manage priority nonprofit and community partners that advance A&S program goals.\nLead and participate in Washington, D.C. engagements with congressional offices, agency stakeholders, and advocacy partners.\n\n Measure & Represent the ProgramDefine and track success metrics across grants, education, partnerships, stewardship, and policy.\nOversee development of the annual A&S Impact Report.\nSynthesize qualitative and quantitative inputs into executive-ready updates and present clear recommendations, risks, trade-offs, and opportunities to senior leadership.\nLead internal communication for A&S and partner with PR on external and media representation.\n\nWHAT YOU’LL BRING\nBachelor's degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.\nTen (10) or more years of experience in program management, advocacy, government relations, corporate social responsibility, nonprofit partnerships, conservation, or related fields.\nDirect experience in federal policy, advocacy, or government relations, including interaction with congressional offices, federal agencies, or policy partners.\nExperience leading complex, cross-functional programs or initiatives from strategy through execution, with responsibility for priorities, partners, and measurable outcomes.\nExperience working across nonprofit, public-sector, government affairs, or other mission-driven partnership environments.\nProven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders with and without direct authority and put enterprise outcomes ahead of their own lane.\nStrong strategic thinking, prioritization, and judgment, including the ability to surface trade-offs and make recommendations in ambiguous or evolving environments.\nA track record of taking ownership and moving work forward without waiting for perfect clarity or ideal conditions.\nComfort operating as both strategist and doer, setting direction while executing hands-on with a small team.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, tailored to senior leaders, external partners, and cross-functional teams.\nExperience using data, reporting, and qualitative insight to inform decisions, measure progress, and improve program outcomes.\nExperience leading or developing a direct report, with a leadership style grounded in maturity, accountability, and low ego.\nA strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI\nA shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.\nPermanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.\nAbility to travel monthly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp. \nADDED BONUSES\nThough not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:\nOutdoor industry experience, or strong familiarity with public lands, access, stewardship, and outdoor recreation issues.\nTHE ONX EXPERIENCE\nonX is a distributed company with more than 400 employees across the country. We come together regularly to work in person and stay connected through regional basecamps and a culture that balances individual ownership with deep collaboration.\nWhile we move quickly, we’re not a scrappy start-up. We operate with clear goals, structure, and frameworks that guide how we prioritize and execute. Priorities matter. While they may shift, data shapes how we evolve as our business, products, and the world around us change.\nClear priorities and structure don’t limit ownership - they make it possible.
