The category is still ours to define.\nThe Role.\nWe’re hiring a Data Scientist to turn the activity happening across Onyx into better products, sharper decisions, and a deeper understanding of our customers and markets.\nAt Onyx, data science sits close to the product. You’ll work directly with engineering, product, growth, trading, and operations to understand user behavior, improve the trading experience, and turn complex datasets into clear decisions.\nThis is a high-ownership role that spans product analytics, experimentation, modeling, data quality, and automation. Some systems already exist. Others are still a blank page. Your work will be visible, your responsibilities will grow quickly, and you’ll have a meaningful voice in how data science is built at Onyx.\nWhat You’ll Own:\nAnalyze user behavior across acquisition, onboarding, deposits, trading, retention, and engagement.\n\nBuild models and analyses that explain conversion, market participation, liquidity, and customer value.\n\nDevelop dashboards and reporting that provide visibility into product and business performance.\n\nDefine the metrics used to evaluate features, markets, and growth initiatives.\n\nDesign experiments, measure results, and translate findings into product recommendations.\n\nIdentify unusual patterns, data-quality issues, operational risks, and opportunities for automation.\nBuild reliable datasets and analytical workflows using SQL and Python.\nPartner with engineering to improve data collection, event tracking, and analytics infrastructure.\n\nWork with product, growth, trading, operations, and leadership on high-priority business questions.\n\nHelp establish the tools, processes, and standards for data science at Onyx.\n\nYou’ll Do Well Here If You:\nHave strong analytical skills and experience using data to solve ambiguous problems.\n\nAre highly proficient in SQL and Python.\n\nHave worked with large, complex, or real-time datasets.\n\nUnderstand experimentation, statistical analysis, and product metrics.\n\nCommunicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.\n\nBring strong product judgment and curiosity about user behavior.\n\nCan move between analytics, modeling, data quality, automation, and product strategy.\n\nWork independently and take ownership in a fast-moving environment.\n\nEven Better If You Have:\nExperience in consumer technology, fintech, trading, gaming, sports, crypto, or marketplaces.\n\nAnalyzed funnels, retention, cohorts, unit economics, or customer lifetime value.\n\nFamiliarity with market structure, pricing, liquidity, risk, or trading behavior.\n\nBuilt data pipelines, internal tools, or automated monitoring systems.\n\nExperience with visualization tools, experimentation platforms, and modern data warehouses.\n\nWorked with event-level product data or high-frequency transactional datasets.\n\nHave an interest in prediction markets and how people form views about future events.\n\nLocation:\nThis role is based in our NoHo, Manhattan office, with core in-office days Tuesday through Thursday.\nCandidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
