We work across the full lifecycle-from strategy and governance through architecture, engineering, analytics, AI, visualization, and training-for clients including the SEC, PCAOB, DDOT, and DCAA.\nOur clients describe our support as “absolutely excellent” and our people as “instrumental to organization’s success.” Winner of the United Nations COP27 Datathon, our work has earned all Exceptional CPARS ratings, SEC Chair’s Awards, the SEC Vision Award, and recognition from FDA leadership.\nWe are also built differently. Peregrine is the first and only social enterprise organized as a Benefit Corporation and SBA 8(a) company focused on AI and data for government. We believe business success should create client value, social value, and opportunity for our people.\nAs we enter our next stage of growth, we need dependable, motivated, and skilled people who have a combination of intellectual curiosity and intellectual courage. With new clients, larger programs, and expanding responsibilities, the people joining Peregrine now will have the opportunity to help shape the company we become.\nPeople first. Ownership always.\nWe solve problems through people, process, and technology-in that order. Technology matters, but people make transformation happen. That principle defines our culture. Trust and motivation are the foundational pillars of delivery on which our skills stand. We hire people we can trust, who care deeply about what they do, take ownership, learn quickly, help one another, and refuse to walk past a problem because it belongs to someone else.\nAt Peregrine, you are not joining simply to fill a position. You are joining a team, taking ownership of a mission, and helping build a company. If that excites you, we should talk.\nAt Peregrine Advisors, you will build and maintain the queries, stored procedures, and views that make a federal agency's enterprise data platform function. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will move to where the hardest problems are.\nThis is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.\nYour first assignment\nIn your first assignment, a senior developer will guide you as you take on your assigned components. Depending on the assignment, you may:\nBuild and maintain Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, stored procedures, and views in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible).\nWork with data from Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3).\nContribute to logical data models and database-design decisions within the established platform architecture, with reviews that explain what to change and why.\nBuild reliable data loads from S3, tune queries with guidance, and work within governed access.\nOver time, you will grow toward responsibility for physical design. The work is real and hard, and it matters. This first assignment is a starting point, not the shape of your career here.\nRequirements\n1+ years of data engineering, database development, software development, or comparable practical experience\nBachelor's degree\nWorking knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, and views on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible)\nFamiliarity with Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)\nQuery tuning with guidance from a senior developer\nExposure to extract, transform, and load (ETL) and extract, load, and transform (ELT) patterns and data integration across Amazon Web Services (AWS) data services\nAwareness of data security controls, including encryption, access management, and auditing\nBasic exposure to loading data from S3 into the platform stores and to Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)\nIntroductory familiarity with logical data modeling and the ability to contribute to database-design decisions within an established platform architecture\nProficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel\nPreferred\nAn entry-level AWS certification, such as Cloud Practitioner, or the interest in earning one\nExposure to query blocking, locking, and deadlocks\nInterest in cloud-native application support in AWS using continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) and development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) practices\nExposure to physical design, including Aurora and DynamoDB schema and index design, or the motivation to grow into it\nFederal information technology or high-volume transaction experience\nInterest in artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted developer tooling\nWho you are\nYou care about getting data right and want a career in data engineering and databases. You ask for help when you need it and put feedback to use quickly. You experiment, fail, learn, and repeat quickly. You would rather own an outcome than be handed a task.\nWhat you bring\nA foundation in SQL and relational databases, with working knowledge of stored procedures and views on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible) and a desire to deepen it across DynamoDB and S3.\nPractical habits in query tuning, data loading, and connectivity, applied with guidance and improved on feedback.\nClear communication about what you have finished, what is blocking you, and where you need support.\nCareful execution in work where accuracy and auditability are essential.\nWhen we talk\nBe prepared to discuss a difficult problem you worked through, the decisions you made, what happened, and what you learned.\nBenefits\nThis is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $80,000 to $95,000 per year.\nBenefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance with the employee premium fully paid and half of dependent premiums; employer-paid life, accidental death, and short-term and long-term disability insurance; a 401(k) matched 100% up to 4% of salary, vesting immediately; unlimited paid time off; and sponsored professional certifications and continuing education.\nWhat we offer\nYou will work alongside developers, engineers, data scientists, architects, and strategists, on work ranging from strategy to implementation. We support your development across assignments with onboarding, sponsored training, and professional development.\nWhat we commit to\nAs a Benefit Corporation, our commitment runs three ways: real, measurable value for our clients; government that works better for the public; and a team that makes everyone in it better.\nWe hire people who want to help build the firm, not just work at it. If that is you, apply.\nPeregrine Advisors is an equal opportunity employer.\nPeregrine exclusively works with OPEN Data Jobs to recruit our team. Register with OPEN Data Jobs to be considered for this and future openings.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6878,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Hybrid work","Professional development","Vision insurance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Recruiting & Staffing","Job Boards & Aggregators"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-07T18:55:15Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":40,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.731,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":4,"reasons":["conf:2","velocity","win:tail","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-12T06:55:09Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/open-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/open-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-13T03:47:04Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":6053,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-14T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":679417},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=679417"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fopen-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fopen-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fopen-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/open-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fopen-data-jobs-junior-data-engineer-sql"}]}
