We partner with Security, IT, Research, Applied, and specialized engineering teams to reduce friction while protecting OpenAI’s systems and data.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Client Platform Engineer, You will build and own agentic solutions that automate OAI fleet operations and reduce employee friction, with measurable outcomes and reliability. You will develop first-party software, integrate commercial and open-source tools, and own changes from design and testing through deployment and production operations. Your work will improve security, reliability, and the employee experience.\nWe’re looking for people who are passionate about automation, endpoint security, and building scalable solutions that improve employee experience. You should have deep experience securing and managing Linux fleets at scale, with strong software engineering skills to automate security controls and fleet operations across environments with different compliance requirements. Your problem-solving mindset and attention to detail will be key to success in this role.\nIn this role, you will:\nBuild the platforms that help employees do their best work on devices they can trust.\nOwn the design, development, deployment, and operation of secure Linux endpoint management systems across environments with different compliance requirements.\n\nCreate magical employee experiences by building agentic workflows with OpenAI products and models that use fleet telemetry to anticipate issues, guide remediation, and design friction out of everyday work.\n\nMake new hires productive from day one, using OpenAI products to simplify device setup, software delivery, and onboarding support.\n\nBuild secure, reliable workflows with scoped access, human review for sensitive changes, traceable actions, and tested recovery.\n\nPartner with IT, Security, Research, and Engineering to deliver consistent Linux provisioning, updates, and support alongside macOS and Windows.\n\nDevelop first-party software and integrate commercial and open-source tools for software packaging, deployment, and application management.\n\nManage fleet configuration as code through GitOps, version control, peer review, and automated validation.\n\nBuild and operate CI/CD pipelines for fleet infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and GCP, with staged deployments and tested rollback.\n\nUse fleet telemetry to proactively improve performance and reliability, detect configuration drift, and verify deployment outcomes.\n\nParticipate in engineering on-call, own incident resolution, and turn operational lessons into lasting improvements that reduce recurring failures and manual work.\n\nYou may be a fit for this role if you have:\nProficiency in Python, Go, or another modern programming language.\n\nDeep experience securing and managing Linux fleets with configuration management, MDM, device enrollment, policy enforcement, and cloud identity integration.\n\nDemonstrated success with open-source endpoint tools for configuration, device and application management, and telemetry.\n\nExperience delivering secure, reliable, scalable systems across different compliance requirements.\n\nDeep experience managing infrastructure at scale with IaC and GitOps, using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Chef.\n\nExperience integrating and operating fleet infrastructure with CI/CD and DevOps workflows.\n\nA track record of deploying and operating fleet infrastructure in public cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).\n\nInitiative, analytical judgment, and the ability to turn problems into practical improvements.\n\nYou might thrive in this role if you have:\nDeep experience with open-source fleet management tools and frameworks.\n\nExperience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nFamiliarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, and NIST.\n\nStrong soft skills, including stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration.\n\nRelevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, CCSP.\n\nA security thought leader with contributions to CPE open-source projects or technical communities.\n\nAbout OpenAI\nOpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
