You’ll explore how ChatGPT should adapt to different contexts, translate complex model capabilities into clear product interactions, and establish patterns that can scale across multiple domains.\nThis is a highly generative, zero-to-one role. You’ll move between broad product vision and detailed interaction design, creating prototypes that help teams learn quickly and polished experiences that are ready to ship. You’ll also navigate domains where trust, accuracy, safety, and user agency are essential.\nThis role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.\nIn this role, you will:\nShape the product and design direction for purpose-built consumer experiences across areas such as health, finance, and general consumer agents.\n\nDesign and ship high-quality products from early concepts and prototypes through detailed interaction design and final visual execution.\n\nDefine how ChatGPT should behave in different domains while preserving a coherent, distinctly OpenAI experience.\n\nExplore new interaction models for AI systems that can understand context, support complex decisions, and take action on a user’s behalf.\n\nPartner closely with research, engineering, product management, safety, and domain experts to turn technical capabilities into useful and responsible products.\n\nConduct and apply user research to understand the distinct needs, expectations, and risks within each vertical.\n\nBalance specialized domain requirements with reusable patterns that can strengthen ChatGPT and accelerate future product development.\n\nContribute to OpenAI’s broader design culture and raise the bar for consumer product craft.\n\nYou might thrive in this role if you:\nHave substantial experience designing and shipping high-quality consumer software at scale.\n\nBring exceptional UX, UI, and interaction design skills, with a high bar for craft in every stage of the work.\n\nAre a highly generative product thinker who can explore broadly, develop a strong point of view, and turn ambiguity into clear product direction.\n\nHave led zero-to-one initiatives or introduced new product categories, behaviors, or interaction models.\n\nCan simplify complex systems without hiding the details users need to make informed decisions.\n\nHave strong instincts for trust, safety, transparency, and user control-particularly in consequential or sensitive experiences.\n\nCan move fluently between domain-specific problems and broader systems or platform thinking.\n\nCommunicate through compelling narratives and prototypes that build alignment across design, research, product, and engineering.\n\nAre excited to define how AI-first consumer products should look, feel, and behave as models become more capable and agentic.\n\nAbout OpenAI\nOpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
