This role is based in one of our talent hubs where we welcome everyone 5 days a week with the requirement of Mo, Tu, Th, Fri.\nOpendoor offers relocation assistance for qualified candidates moving to Miami or Toronto.\nYou're interviewing for Opendoor, not any specific team. We don't slot you into a team on day one, rather once you're in, we match you to where you'll have the most impact and the most fun.\nThis isn't a role for everyone. We choose hard mode. We're process-light, high-trust, and we don't put artificial boundaries between you and the work. You'll be expected to understand how your piece connects to the product and communicate at that level. We don't have project managers, we don't have scrum. We do reviews, proposals, demos, and trust.\nWhat We're Looking For\nYou ship. You pick the boring solution when boring is right and the novel one when it isn't. You measure twice and cut once, but you also know when \"good enough and shipped today\" beats \"perfect next quarter.\"\nYou think in first principles. You have opinions on architecture, distributed systems, and the tradeoffs between technologies. You can speak to the constraints, tripwires, and heuristics that come with operating in a complex and high touch environment. You've formed these opinions through your experiences, not from a book.\nYou're language-agnostic. We care about deep expertise, not loyalty to a specific stack. If you've done the most impressive work of your career in a language or framework we don't or haven't used, we want to hear from you.\nYou default to AI. You've already integrated modern AI tools into your daily workflow. You use them to move faster, not as a crutch.\nYou communicate well. You write clear design docs. You give useful code reviews. You push back on bad ideas without making it personal. You can explain a technical tradeoff to a non-technical stakeholder and actually land it.\nYou believe in what we're building. Not hype, conviction. You see the opportunity in what we're doing and you want to be part of finishing it.\nYou have fun. We stay human when times are hard. We all know what we're trying to accomplish, and the task is daunting, but we're all in it together.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuild production systems that real customers and real money depend on\nOwn features end-to-end, from design through deployment and beyond\nLead and participate in technical design reviews\nUse AI tools daily and help push them further than anyone else in the industry\nReview code, mentor teammates, and raise the bar on everything around you\nBridge the gap between infrastructure and product\nQualifications\nDeep software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems others depend on\nStrong fundamentals in at least one general-purpose language; comfortable picking up new ones\nExperience with relational databases and the ability to reason about performance at scale\nBased in or willing to relocate to Miami, Toronto, or Seattle\nInterview Process\nWe move fast. Typically:\nRecruiter phone screen (15 min)\nA 60 minute technical deep dive interview to understand a past problem or project you've worked on\nTwo 60 minute pairing style technical reviews\nWe're not running these to see if you can finish a problem under pressure. We want to know what it's like to work with you.
