This role bridges application development and healthcare\ninteroperability, focusing on designing, building, and maintaining robust data interfaces\nwith partner systems. You will work across HL7, FHIR, and modern API integrations to\nenable seamless communication between Surgimate’s platform and external healthcare\nsystems. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with\nhands-on experience in healthcare data standards and integration technologies.\nCommunication skills are crucial for this role, as it involves direct interaction with\ncustomers, vendors, and technical teams.\nKey Responsibilities\nIntegration Engineering\nDesign, develop, and implement HL7 (v2.x, v3, FHIR) and API-based integrations\n\nbetween Surgimate and partner systems (EHRs, scheduling platforms, and other\nhealthcare IT systems).\nPerform data mapping, transformation, and validation to ensure accuracy and\n\ncompliance of data exchanges.\nBuild and support interface workflows using integration tools (e.g., Mirth Connect).\n\nCollaborate with external healthcare providers, IT teams, and internal stakeholders to\n\ndeliver seamless and reliable data interoperability.\nTroubleshoot, test, and monitor interfaces to maintain continuous data flow and\n\nminimize downtime.\nSoftware Development\nContribute to the design, development, and maintenance of Surgimate’s web and\n\nbackend applications.\nDevelop and document RESTful APIs and services to support integrations and platform connectivity.\n\nParticipate in code reviews, maintain documentation, and follow best practices for testing and version control.\n\nCollaborate closely with cross-functional teams (QA, Product, and US-based Engineering) to deliver scalable and secure solutions.\n\nOperational Support\nInvestigate, debug, and resolve integration and software issues reported by internal\n\nteams or clients.\nContribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting enhancements to interface\n\narchitecture, workflow automation, and data exchange efficiency.\nSupport broader platform initiatives as needed.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or\n\nequivalent practical experience).\n4-6 years of professional experience in software development and system integrations.\n\nProficiency in at least one modern programming language/framework: Angular, Ruby on\n\nRails, Python, PHP , NodeJS or Java.\nProven experience with HL7 interface development, message types (ADT , ORM, ORU,\n\nSIU), and FHIR APIs.\nStrong understanding of RESTful API design, JSON/XML data structures, and database\n\nquerying (SQL and NoSQL).\nExcellent debugging and problem-solving skills with a focus on reliability and\n\nperformance.\nOutstanding communication and interpersonal skills - ability to work directly with\n\ncustomers, vendors, and technical teams to gather requirements, resolve issues, and\nensure smooth integrations.\nEffective collaborator in a distributed, remote-first environment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Mirth Connect or similar integration engines.\n\nBackground in healthcare IT and understanding of interoperability standards and\n\ncompliance (HIPAA, CCD, CDA).\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nExposure to AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar.\n\nPrior experience integrating with EMR/EHR systems\n\nWorking Conditions\nRemote-first position with home office as the primary workspace.\n\nRequired overlap of 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET to collaborate with US-based teams.\n\nFlexibility to work extended hours as needed to support key initiatives.Why Join Us\n\nPlay a pivotal role in building the integration framework that powers data interoperability across healthcare systems.\n\nWork on innovative healthcare technology products with a direct impact on patient care coordination.\n\nCollaborative and inclusive environment focused on learning, innovation, and delivery excellence.\n\n___________________________________________________\nLearn more about openDoctor\nOur Product & Mission:\nAt openDoctor, we’re one company with three powerful platforms - Surgimate, ImplantBase, and openDoctor - working together to transform how surgeries are coordinated and delivered.
